Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

This two-record set on one CD collects 16 Paul Simon hits from his solo career after Simon & Garfunkel without much rhyme or reason. The selections are not in chronological order and several of the cuts are oddly chosen. Those minor points aside, there are some landmark works presented on these discs. "Hearts and Bones" is a brilliant depiction of a crumbling love affair, while "Slip Slidin' Away" uncovers the hurt of divorce and middle age with a groove that's pure mid-'70s decadent. Simon's infatuation with rhythm is all over the place, from the reggae of "Mother and Child Reunion" to the South African bounce of "You Can Call Me Al." --Rob O'Connor

Format: Audio CD
This great album documents Paul Simon's solo career post Simon & Garfunkel up to and including his 1986 masterpiece Graceland. It demonstrates his delightful variety of styles, from the bouncy reggae of Mother and Child Reunion and Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard through the witty pop of 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover to the lilting South African grooves of Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes and You Can Call Me Al.
These are exquisite songs with poetic lyrics and engaging melodies. Besides the aforementioned tracks, my favorites include the hits Loves Me Like A Rock, Kodachrome and the beautiful Late In The Evening. Not all of these were released as singles but they're all quality songs demonstrating the rich diversity of Simon's solo output.
Simon's willingness to experiment with world music beats probably goes back to El Condor Pasa. It found a successful expression in Reunion and Julio, eventually leading to his very best work like Graceland. This sets him apart from most singer/songwriters or folkies with their roots in the 1960s. Negotiations And Love Songs offers the highlights from 15 years of this legendary singer and composer, providing a very inspiring listening experience.

This is a superb album - Ive owned it on vinyl since its original release and its a perpetual favourite, still getting played regularly almost 25 years on. There are lots of different musical styles included, but the continuing theme (for me anyway) is the intelligence of the lyrics - they're 'still delightful after all these years'.

I hadn't heard this in years - I had it on cassette when it was first released - I had forgotten just how good these songs are, and how well it was produced. The 'Graceland' songs you've probably already got, but the others are great and worth buying this CD for. Standout tracks (for me) - 'Still crazy after all these years', 'Train in the distance'

A collection of Simons best solo offerings up to 1986. This is a must buy for all fans of music. From the get go with Mother and Child reunion through to the final track You can call me Al, you cant help but tap your feet ( or even sing along at the top of your voice). A Classic album from a master of song writing.

This is a great collection of Paul Simon's earlier solo classics. There isn't a bad track on this album and I played it twice straight away.
