I like it when authors put their truth on the table right away and do not hide behind fancy words. That was the reason I've bought this book. I mean, we all use some kind of manipulations when communicating with others so why not admit it and by that becoming better at it?
That's what the author writes at the beginning of the book and by that enables a practical discussion about how one can ethically manipulate during his negotiations.

As someone with over than 25 years of commercial and business experience I already know that using manipulations doesn't necessarily mean behaving unethically. I also know what happens to one who behaves unethically and with this I as well agree with the author that behaving unethically equals 'pooping where you live'.

I've found the list of manipulations given in the second half of the book to be quite helpful. Indeed, not all of the manipulation moves were new to me, and I guess that if you are an experienced negotiator you'll know a few of them as well, yet the book did teach me a few new tricks! For example the mental accounting manipulation is certainly one I should use more. Along with that, the fact that it's well written and organized (the icons describing whether it's a movement or a grip manipulation are very informative and helpful) will help me to quickly re-cap before my next important negotiation.

Whether you're an MBA student, someone who negotiate by profession of 'just' someone who negotiate daily life, you'll benefit from reading this book.

The first thing that I liked in this book is the direct approach it offers regarding manipulations - no hiding behind any euphemisms such as 'influencing' but the truth as it is: we all use some kind of negotiation manipulations in many of our daily negotiations.
I agree with the author's point of view that by seeing manipulations as they are one can become a more ethical negotiator, improve his negotiation ability and his resilience towards manipulation done over him. In this sense this book offers a different and refreshing approach than any other negotiation book I've read on the subject.

The second reason that made me like this book is the feeling I was left with while reading that the whole discussion is based on 'hands on' experience.

This is an informative and great book.

This is a practical book, not focused in why, but in how.

I will recommend to read this and other books (as the power of habit, thinking fast and slow, the psychology of influence) this is not a substitute for those, it has some slightly different points of view that make sense.
