Product Description

10-year old Negi Springfield is a wizard-in-training, and needs only to pass one more test in order to become a Master Wizard. Unfortunately, his final task is a bizarre one- to become a English teacher at an all-females boarding school. As soon as he arrives, he completely embarasses one of his students, Asuna Kagurazaka, and replaces the teacher she loves, which garners her hatred. To make matters worse, Asuna learns that Negi is a wizard, and promises to tell unless he helps her out. But, unfortunately, circumstances force them to work together to do many things, from fighting evil wizards to helping the class pass their final exam, with a lot of humor, magic, and romances thrown in.

The craziest class in anime return to our screens again with the newly reimagined Negima!?. If you haven't seen the first series of Negima, then don't fret; this is a completely new and separate series that can be enjoyed on it's own. This brand new series follows a somewhat similar story concept, but with differing plot lines and is told in a different style to it's predecessor. When 10 year old child prodigy and magical whiz - Negi Springfield becomes the teacher for class 3A at Mahora academy, he soon realises that he's got his work cut out for him. For starters, his all female class include a vampire, a robot, a ghost, a weapons expert and a samurai. So prepare yourself for a mayhem overdose as mishaps and misadventures a-plenty await class 3A and their unexpecting young teach in these first 13 episodes.

Although the story outline is similar to the first series, this second outing focuses more on action and story development and concentrates less on the fanservice and high school antics. In my opinion, this series is definetly superior to the original as it actually employs an intelligent and addictive story that manages to sustain it. Soon into the story, Negi discovers that he can make magical contracts to partner up with another person in order to employ their magical abiltiy. This magical abilty involves plenty of flashing lights, dramatic music and most importantly - a kiss. So whenever Negi gets into a spot of bother he often ends up sucking face with one of the many beautiful girls at Mahora (lucky get).
As the series proceeds, Negi teams up with his ever-growing collection of partners in order to battle the forces of evil and try to ensure the safety of their friends while at the same time; trying to discover the truth of the mysterious Black Rose Baron.

Not only is Negima!? rich on story and magical action, it is also pretty darn funny with some pure crazy and insane comedy in the vein of classics such as Pani Poni dash and Excel Saga. This humour comes as a welcome surprise and has created some genuine laughs wiith this viewer. The music in this anime is also really catchy, with some nice J-pop segments throughout the episodes and a couple of infectious intro and ending credit songs. Furthermore, fans of the original show will be pleased to hear that pretty much all the original cast have returned to reprise their roles in both the English and Japanese dub. The animation is also superb and beautiful on the eye. The series nicely blends CGI animation and traditional hand drawn artwork to create a gorgeous looking series that looks absolutely incredible.

Definetly a series that fans of the original will enjoy and certainly a competent series in it's own respect. With great characters, a fun and intriguing storyline and some awesome looking action, you really can't go wrong with Negima!? part 1.

Negima!? Saga 6 Nov 2009
Okay, if you liked the original Negima series, you'll probably like this as well. But be warned, it's not Negima as you know it. It's Pani-Poni Dash that's been made to look like Negima.
More than just a few jokes from PPD have been recycled here and if you are familiar with that series, it will either be a feast of recognition or very, very annoying.
Don't expect any major plot-twists or depth in this all-new storyline either. Or character development for that matter.
Other than that, it's a well-made and highly enjoyable high-school-girl anime on steroids. If you liked Excell Saga or the afore mentioned Pani-Poni Dash, you will love this short series as well.

`Negima!?' is the second anime series based on the series `Negima!' by Ken Akamatsu and although the characters and general situation (10 year old wizard gets a job teaching at a Japanese girls school) are the same the plot itself is vastly different from the original manga and the previous anime series. This version of the Negima story is more of a strait comedy than the other versions and focuses more on Negi as a bumbling wizard trying to keep his magic secret.

The show itself is okay and while some of the comedy is laugh out loud funny, much of it is somewhat cringe worthy slapstick. The animation is generally of a good style but as with the previous anime series the English dub does get a bit annoying sometimes. The new plot does have the odd interesting turn to it but it is otherwise quite basic and somewhat dull.

There are some good moments in the thirteen episodes of this first volume though. The fight between Negi and Evangeline is surprisingly good and there are a few nice references to the parent series. My favourite part of this first volume though has to be the one that introduces Sayo Aizaka which is easily the funniest episode of the volume. Another good thing is the omake series between each episode, all of which are good with some being funnier than the series itself, especially the Baka Ranger ones.

This second Negima series may not be as good as the previous one but it does have a few good moments. Negima is my favourite manga around at the moment and it is a shame that there has yet to be a decent anime adaptation of it.
