The craziest class in anime return to our screens again with the newly reimagined Negima!?. If you haven't seen the first series of Negima, then don't fret; this is a completely new and separate series that can be enjoyed on it's own. This brand new series follows a somewhat similar story concept, but with differing plot lines and is told in a different style to it's predecessor. When 10 year old child prodigy and magical whiz - Negi Springfield becomes the teacher for class 3A at Mahora academy, he soon realises that he's got his work cut out for him. For starters, his all female class include a vampire, a robot, a ghost, a weapons expert and a samurai. So prepare yourself for a mayhem overdose as mishaps and misadventures a-plenty await class 3A and their unexpecting young teach in these first 13 episodes.
Although the story outline is similar to the first series, this second outing focuses more on action and story development and concentrates less on the fanservice and high school antics. In my opinion, this series is definetly superior to the original as it actually employs an intelligent and addictive story that manages to sustain it. Soon into the story, Negi discovers that he can make magical contracts to partner up with another person in order to employ their magical abiltiy. This magical abilty involves plenty of flashing lights, dramatic music and most importantly - a kiss. So whenever Negi gets into a spot of bother he often ends up sucking face with one of the many beautiful girls at Mahora (lucky get).
As the series proceeds, Negi teams up with his ever-growing collection of partners in order to battle the forces of evil and try to ensure the safety of their friends while at the same time; trying to discover the truth of the mysterious Black Rose Baron.
Not only is Negima!? rich on story and magical action, it is also pretty darn funny with some pure crazy and insane comedy in the vein of classics such as Pani Poni dash and Excel Saga. This humour comes as a welcome surprise and has created some genuine laughs wiith this viewer. The music in this anime is also really catchy, with some nice J-pop segments throughout the episodes and a couple of infectious intro and ending credit songs. Furthermore, fans of the original show will be pleased to hear that pretty much all the original cast have returned to reprise their roles in both the English and Japanese dub. The animation is also superb and beautiful on the eye. The series nicely blends CGI animation and traditional hand drawn artwork to create a gorgeous looking series that looks absolutely incredible.
Definetly a series that fans of the original will enjoy and certainly a competent series in it's own respect. With great characters, a fun and intriguing storyline and some awesome looking action, you really can't go wrong with Negima!? part 1.
