5.0 out of 5 stars The battle for the world 6 Nov 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The epic battle between Negi and Fate continues with both parties preparing massive spells designed to destroy their opponent. Once this battle is over however unexpected reinforcements show up for both sides as the fight to save the Magic World reaches its climax and Class 3-A attempt to awaken the sleeping Asuna.

This thirty-sixth volume of the 'Negima!' manga concludes the Magic World arc with a greatly entertaining fight. The volume gives us a chance to see what the adult cast members are truly capable of as they face off against Cosmo Enchilada while Negi finally comes face to face with the Lifemaker. The volume also gives us a flashback to Fate's past, showing us just why he is so different to the other members of the Averruncus Series, is meeting with the Thousand Master and how he first met Shiori. We also get to meet Secundum and some of the other former members of Cosmo Enchilada.

Some fans were disappointed at how the Magic World arc ended due to the use of the Power of Friendship but seeing as this is one of the themes of the series I personally quite like it. I will admit that even I thought the final few chapters had something of a rushed feel when I first read the after their weekly release but reading the entire thing in this volume makes them flow much better.

The translation of the volume is somewhat odd as it seems to switch from fully translating spells at the beginning to leaving them in the appropriate for the rest of the volume. There are also some other minor translation issues here and there but it generally seems to be reasonably good.

This was another great volume of 'Negima!' and one that is well worth a full five stars. Unfortunately there are only two volumes of the series left after this and this early end means that the series isn't as epic as it could have been but it is still easily my favourite manga.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Final Countdown 31 Oct 2012
By Anime Lover - Published on

(minor spoilers)

This is it folks, the final battle for the magic world is coming to an end as Negi and Fate stand toe to toe and eye to eye. We get to see what makes Fate tick by him remembering the past, and see that there was others Averincuses out there. But Fate was made differently, unlike the others he was given a special gift by the creator - the gift of free will and the command to decide his own fate. At the end of the fight Negi tells Fate his plan to save the whole world and the timeline, but before an agereement is reached they are attacked by the other Avernicuses. The fight looks bad, but help arrives in the form of the Mahora teachers and Dark Evangel (who then proceeds to have the time of her life kicking butt). But when the Lifegiver Mage arrives to take up the fight against them, only one person can help Negi and the others stop the end of the world - but can the appearance of class 3A help wake up Baka Ranger Red in time? Also a face that Negi has been looking for makes an appearance, with a final request. What does this mean, and can Negi pull this off?

This was a well paced, well written story. While I am glad this portion of the story is over, I feel that the end of the series is not far in the future. Now just have to wait until January for the next chapter to open. Until then..............
5.0 out of 5 stars It's Ken Akamatsu! 18 Feb 2013

Need I say more? So far with Love Hina and now with Negima, Akamatsu sensei has never failed to impress and amaze me with his deeply complicated stories and plot twists. The tons of cute girls are just an extra bonus. I'll be sad to see the final volume with number 38. At least Akamatsu sensei has hinted that he might continue the story at a later date.

Shipping was fast and received it quickly. The cover was bent, so I had to return it for a new volume. As far as the actual book goes, it is amazing. Great battle scenes and character development.
