Having 300w per flash head (which is adjustable) gives the photographer more than enough light to work with. In some cases it's too much, even with the power turned right down! It's better to have too much power as you can't add what isn't there! All three flash heads can be fired by cable, wireless or slave. The kit includes cables and the wirless unit. One part is plugged into one of the heads, the other is attached to the cameras' hot shoe. Recycling times are good at around a second or so. All heads are equipped with modelling lights.
The stands don't seem that sturdy but they are sturdier than they appear. They're strong enough for the job which is the main thing.
The kit contains most things that a photographer might need, brollies, softboxes, barn doors, honeycomb and coloured filter gels. Everything has it's own bag. However, these bags are not top quality and the stitching has come apart already. The main carrying valise is of very good quality and is well padded. It's big enough to store this complete kit which is handy for portable studios.
The only bad point about this kit is the poor quality bags for the softboxes. Apart from this, I've had no real problems with this kit at all. I've replaced one of the halogen modelling light bulbs and had to replace the softbox bags with better ones. You do need to be aware of the coloured gels though! The heat from the modelling light is more than enough to melt the gel, as a work experience trainee found out when she managed to melt 3 gels in one session!
Would I recommend this kit? Yes. It does the job very well and is good value for money. Yes there are better kits available but they do cost a lot more money! I use my kit for location shoots at weddings etc. (in case of bad weather). As a result, the kit is put up & down on a very regular basis. I am a full time, professional photographer andI've had my kit for just under 12 months now and not had any problems apart from the minor ones listed above. I woud definitely recommed this for amateur, semi-pro and pro photographers alike. You could spend a lot more money for a kit that isn't much better!
