Firstly thanks to Greenlizard for their review, actually persuaded me to give it a go.
Have not tested it as USB 3.0 as I do not have any USB 3.0 devices, by the time I do I will probably change my 6 year old laptop anyway.
I bought this for an old Sony VGN-C1S that only has 2 usb 2.0 ports and no bluetooth or inbuilt webcam, so to do any sort of work I needed extra ports.
Thanks to Greenlizard I sourced new drivers from ASMEDIA for ASM1041/ASM1042 but I have not done the firmware upgrade.
I put the card in laptop windows 7 64bit didn't recognise it but directed it to the downloaded files and installed ASMedia XHCI Controller, but still had "unknown" device, I updated the unknown device by using same download folder and it worked. Not sure why I had to run install twice.
Runs thumbdrive, webcam and bluetooth dongle no problems. HDD will not run unless I use a double header usb cable, which defeats the object of adding two extra ports. The issue with the HDD was complicated by the fact that it will only work if I plug both cable connectors into express card and THEN insert the express card into laptop - weird.
It is extremely light and fits perfectly into the express card slot, not sticking out at all and good fit.
I am happpy with the price, the build quality, the fit in my laptop, the extra two ports work for me.
I would not be happy if I had wanted true USB 3.0 for high capacity HDD.
I have bought previously a Medion USB 3.0 Express Card X89003 which works perfectly but sticks out at the side and I have to take it out to put laptop in its bag every time I use it.
