I have been a follower of the Need for Speed series ever since Hot Pursuit. One after another they came out and impressed me with amazing graphics, challenging and fun gameplay, and new features to keep me looking forward to the next. This game was no exception.

Ever since I bought a PSP I have used it more and more and my other consoles less and less so it made sense to me to buy the new NFS on PSP. I loved it as soon as I started playing, it was challenging, fun and my first session was about 3 hours because I just couldn't put it down. The gameplay is constantly different depending on your place in the game, sometimes you will be racing for the highest speed and other times you'll be racing round a very twisty course just struggling to stay on the track. And there are different levels of difficulty allowing less experienced racers to get into the flow just as easily. The learning curve was however quite sharp to start with as only the first 3 races allowed you to use the lowest level of difficulty, this meant my little sister was stuck after the first level (she didn't like the game much anyway).

Graphics were excellent although at start of the races the screen seemed slightly blurry around the edges, this becomes less notciable however once you start concentrating on the race. The music was very good and it featured a wide range of genres to satisfy everybody. One problem I did have though was that even though there were lots of music tracks, there was one track that had amount 5 remixes and it kept playing more often than I would have liked, this however was easily fixed with just a fiddle of the settings.

Online play is my favourite part, you get to race somebody from anywhere in the world whenever you want seeing as there is always someone online.

I recently completed this game having played through from the start on the hardest level 'Speed King'. Quite how I managed to stick it out all the way to the end is a testament to something in the game that the developers got right - that 'one more go' feeling. For some reason I felt compelled to continue beating my head against the wall of gameplay flaws in the knowledge that at some point (sometimes after 30-40 attempts I'd get it right). So that's what's right with it - it kept me coming back for more.

As for what's wrong? Well...
The handling is so sluggish it's like trying to navigate a turd around the track (except the GT-R, but you won't get that until right at the end of the game, by which point you might have committed suicide). Because the graphics are so blurry at speed you really need to know when a corner is coming, because by the time you actually see it it'll be too late. To compound this, the AI seems intent on sticking to its line no matter the cost, meaning if you pip it to a corner it'll quite happily turn into your rear three quarter and stick you in the wall. This happens time and again, meaning that any sensation of you actually 'racing' is lost. Strangely though, it is almost impossible for you to dish out a bit of the same without causing yourself some major damage (which turns the handling from gash to undriveable). There's also the fact that you have to buy certain cars for certain races and the miserly winnings mean that you have to play some tracks over and over to earn enough to purchase them (and then play the tracks some more so you can upgrade them and become competetive). Weirdly though, you can't sell any of your old cars to speed up this process.

One of 3 racing games I got as a present for a 12 year old. All 3 are similar but with subtle differences. All good fun to play with as far as I can tell as I haven't tried them myself.

I played this game before the release to test out the overall gameplay and i can say that it is by far one of the best games ever. The online features are incredible, with fast flowing, heart stopping racing. There is always challengers online and ready. This is a must Buy for all racing gamers.

The graphics are as sharp as any game and the music is great with hits. The soundings of the cars are unreal and the damage you can achieve is 'mad'.

A must buy

The Good: There's a great selection of cars to choose from, Muscle (Dodge charger/ challenger, Shelby 500 and new concept 500) Super cars like your Lambs and Ford Gt and Even the Zonda to my surpise. The Graphics are relly good but the console cant keep up in places and it lags quite a bit. Maybe its Because the Fat PSP only has half the memory.
Outside of the game, there's too much use of basic colours and doesnt look that great. Theres a good selection of Music on it as like most NFS games.

My Bads: Its not your normal meyham round the streets, its race track all the way. Some levels are quite fun but most are pretty dull. I dont get frustrated with games but with this i do, Alot. You go slightly off the road (onto the grass) and your speed reduces drasticly, and even when Powering NOS it still takes alot of speed off. Also, if you scrape a barrer on a corner, the car sticks to it and wont move off it unless using loads of breaking, resulting in your car damaged and traction pushes you to one side for the rest of the race. The damage is good because its more relistic, its bad because one slightly fast corner and you have to deal with the car for the rest of the rage.
Some races take lots of attempts to complete, I must admit I do like a challenge but sometimes its too much.

Overall, A quite good game but If i had the choice to buy this or Carbon, I think id go with carbon. There is no story line in Pro Street, this doesnt bother me because i usaully dont care for the story and just wana play.
