This is one of the better of the recent NFS games, and I currently play it on my MacBook Pro, with no problems at all (the graphics are actually pretty average at best, PS2 grade with a bit of shine). So my laptop could play this on the lesser graphics card (9400, switching the 9600GT off) with my Apple Cinema Display (20-inch) attached, playing the game on the larger 2nd screen. Like a few of EA's games, it seems to play only in obscure 4:3 aspect ratios, widescreen (16:9) isnt an option and the upper graphics setting seems to be a paltry 1280x1000 or similiar.
There is the occasional pause in play, it only lasts a millisecond, and it can get annoying. But it doesn't seem to be because my computer is struggling, as the stutter is completely random, stuttering at points in which you would think no loading or intense graphical calculations are being done. It may have something to do with the fact that this game is ported by Cider, rather than being native to the Mac, but I coudl be wrong.
I have a decent internet connection, but nothing could get this game to play online, EA may have pulled the plug on the servers for the game, but whatever it is it simply doesnt want to work.
Overall there is enough genuine racing to keep race fans happy, the sense of speed is good, the tracks and game modes varying enough to keep you interested, if only for as long as the single player mode lasts (probably 5-7 hours max). There are a varety of muscle, tuner and exotic cars of varying levels that can be modded endlessly (both performance and visuals) without it getting so complex that your mind boggles. My only concern about the cars is that during the single player 'career' your msucle/tuner/exotic will be up against all 3 of the different variety of cars, so quite often you'll find yourself unable to keep up simply because your in the wrong car (muscle cars are absolutely rubbish for the canyon races, they dont grip and turn well enough in corners). Also I was sad to see drag racing removed from the game. Audio is good, engine noises arent droning or reptitive, and th music suites this type of game (even if they have edited lots of the songs to remove bad language and to make it fit certain sequences, the tracks can feel a bit disjointed sometimes).
