If you are going through Prime and simply can't find anything to watch, love fast cars and appreciate some good scenic views, then there are worse ways to spend your time than watching this.
The plot is so cliched and been done so many times before that you will just roll your eyes shortly after the film gets going. It's here, when the scene is set that you will either continue watching anyway, having firmly put aside any expectations about anything unexpected happening, or hit the stop button because you know exactly what is going to happen and aren't prepared to waste any more time.

If you choose the former you will be treated at times to some great camera work, watching some expensive cars on roads cutting through some beautiful landscapes at times. You will not be rewarded with any clever dialogue, or anything else clever from the script, you will just free your mind and enjoy all the things you know are coming. And they do, exactly as clockwork. You have seen this movie many times before, and many times better even, but an HD streaming provided me just enough eye candy that I didn't hit stop. I didn't care one iota about any of the characters, they were all hollow and miscast anyway so I had no desire to know how it ended, because I already knew how it would end and indeed it ended almost picture perfect to my expectations. That's why 3 stars is the most I can give it. Watchable if you are willing to detach your brain and accept the preposterous events that ensue. Don't spoil it for yourself by trying to apply reason to ANY of it. You know full well that a Mustang is not going to leave the tarmac at speed, go up a steep grass verge, leap over 4 lanes of traffic 15 feet above, land nose first and continue on like nothing happened and completely intact.

A lot of people will be tempted to watch this film because of the involvement of Aaron Paul, who was one of the stars of the peerless Breaking Bad TV series. Paul is a blue collar worker named Tobey, who wants to take part in a high stakes illegal car race in San Francisco, organised by a villain named Monarch (Michael Keaton going through the motions in one of his usual slimeball roles). Tobey wants to win the race against a dumb rich guy named Dino, who caused the car crash death of Tobey's best mate. So, a big part of the film is about revenge. On the road-trip to San Francisco, Tobey is chased by the usual assortment of Keystone Kops, i.e. highway patrol cops who are presumably well trained to use pursuit vehicles, but who become strangely inept at the wheel at the mere sight of Tobey's American muscle car. There is a plentiful supply of action here, and if you are a petrol-head, you will certainly enjoy watching cars like a Pagani Zonda, Bugatti Veyron and Koenigsegg Agera go head to head on the road. Much as I like Aaron Paul, I don't think that this role was quite right for him, somebody like Nicolas Cage would have been better suited. Paul is convincing as a small-time crook, but he doesn't have the muscular presence to convince as a hard-man, which I think this film needed. Based on his wonderful work in Breaking Bad, I'm hoping that there is more to Aaron Paul's abilities than he is able to show in Need for Speed. Midnight Express is long overdue a remake, and I'm sure Aaron Paul would be absolutely brilliant taking on John Hurt's role as a long-term prisoner with a drug addiction. If you want to view a good chase movie which is more fun than this one, try Smokey and the Bandit. If you fancy a chase movie which has more of a raw edge, try Death Race 2000 (the original version).

Nice cars but poor storyline and dreadfully unrealistic car racing. Big disappointment!

Oh dear, even Aaron Paul couldn't save this film. I think this is a classic case of why directors are directors and stunt choreographers are stunt choreographers. The action is ok, if that's all you want from a film then you may not be disappointed but if you are expecting any quality in performance or writing then you're better off going elsewhere. The characters are 2-dimensional and vested no interest from me. It was all incredibly puerile, actually I'm now wondering if two stars is over generous.

i liked it more than expected. pls do not listen to bad critics. they are just envious not being able to drive nice cars while crossing several States and sweeping a nice blond of her feet ;-)
Just kidding. The black guy is very funny and strangely resourceful, sounds and looks like a young Jamey Fox. This movie is a mix a the A-team and Fast Furious
This movie has a lot of humour and IS entertaining even if the super hero scenario ending is predictable

One of the worst films I've ever seen, totally pathetic sentiment spread throughout a poor storyline, plotholes throughout the whole thing. The story builds up to a race (for revenge no less) between criminals, some slightly less criminal than others where the competitors race to win the other racers cars, then proceed to smash each other off the road, then get arrested. complete rubbish, I will never get that two hours back.

Now normally i detest any films to do with cars or racing. How wrong i was with this film? 100% wrong. Purely by chance did i happen to watch it at the cinema and you know what. It is undoubtedly the best film I've seen this year. It was that good i went to the cinemas again to watch (and that is something i have never done before). The cast was brilliant and i loved Aaron Paul in this role. It's witty, real, humorous and thrilling to watch. A must watch for everyone of all ages.
