4.0 out of 5 stars Need for Speed Underground 2 15 Dec 2004
First things first - this is a good game in its own right, but if you are into modding cars, then it becomes a great game!

Rather than having to select which races to participate in, Underground 2 takes a loose Grand Theft Auto approach to it all whereby you drive around a massive open plan city, visiting performance shops, car lots, body shops etc, and also entering any races that you like the look of. As well as this, you can also challenge any other boy racers you see around the city. EA have really opened the game up, and it works well.

As for the races themselves, well there are various different types, including drag, circuit, sprint, drift, url, street-x which does add some variety. By winning these races you get money with which to do up your motor.

Another novel feature is the ability to sign sponsership deals and appear on magazine covers in the game. Although not a big thing, it does break up the gameplay nicely.

I know many magazines have been a little critical of the graphics being a little blurry, and i see their point - however i play on a small TV and they don't disrupt the game.

So if you like taking anything from a 106 to an Evo and turning it into the stuff of dreams, then you can't go far wrong with Underground 2. It's worth a look from fans of racing games too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first, but lacking brilliance 3 Feb 2005
Need for Speed Underground 2 (NFSU2) is one of the best car games on the gamecube now. The new drive around feature is nice but can get teidious at times. The new racebreaker feature is extremly useful (where you can get NOS during a race). There are loads of differant customisations to get, the newer one like putting speakers in the back of your car is cool and having hydralics is fun, and the differant doors (which i havn't got yet!) look cool. The multi-car feature is cool as you can make a separate performance and design car. There are loads of differant cars to unlock, and for those who played NFSU there are loads more, like the mustang gt and hummer h2. O yes you now can get SUVs which have a separate race that you use them in. You can take some of the pictures of your car for magazins and DVD covers. You can also race other racers when your driving around the city, this unlocks unique stuff. So i get it a 4/5 star rating as it was good, but not brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best just got better... 20 Nov 2004
I got the game this morning and i haven't stopped playing yet! There have been numerous improvements to the game, such as new game modes, new cars and of course, more parts! In fact, there are over 70 billion different car combinations you can make! The range is simply massive. EA have even put in things like speakers in the car's boot.
The new free-roaming environment is simply massive. Miles of new places to drive, and the new courses are much better designed. They pose more of a challenge than the tracks from the first game.
The new modes are the let down though. Circuit, drag, and drift are all very different ways to drive, but racer-x, UCL and outrun are exactly the same. Racer-x is just circuit mode, so is UCL, except in UCL you can have 6 racers at the same time. Outrun can only be played while roaming, and is a new type of play, but is short and gets boring quickly. You have to catch up to another racer, overtake him, then loose him.
Overall though, it still feels very new and is much better than the original. If i was to list all the new features, i would be here all day, so just get the game if you loved the original, or want a great racing game.
