Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Need for Speed is going back to its roots and that can mean only one thing: police chases and ridiculously expensive supercars. Hot Pursuit doesn't make any claims to be the most realistic racer out there, even compared to previous games, but it does aim to be the most fun.

The chase is on as Need for Speed regains its mojo
Racers have underhand power-ups like radar jammers
Use an EMP blast as a cop to stop any racer in their tracks
There are no rules of the road as a Need for Speed racer

You can play either as cops or racers, but both sides get ultra powerful cars and a range of power-ups to get them to the race's end. If you're a cop your job is to chase down your quarry using any means necessary, including roadblocks.

If you're playing as a racer you'll often be in a slower car than your pursuer, but you won't be tied to any of their rules and get your own powerful power-ups like the radar jammer. With its own in-game social network you don't just get to race online you can live the whole Need for Speed lifestyle with your friends and rivals.

Key Features
  • Police Chase: Play as the cops and see how many racers you can bust, in both single player and online matches, using a range of specialised power-ups.
  • Race Driver: Reignite the spirit of Need for Speed as you try to keep ahead of the cops. Use every dirty trick in the book, including power-ups such as a radar jammer.
  • Facebook Driving: New Autolog social network lets you track your in-game career and brag about it with others, as personalised challenges are issued depending on your performance.
  • Top Gear: Race in some of the most powerful road cars ever made, including the Porsche 918 Spyder, Lamborghini Reventón, and Bugatti Veyron.
  • Trusted Source: Developed by Criterion Software, makers of the critically-acclaimed Burnout Paradise - with help from Battlefield developers DICE on the huge open world landscape.
About the Developer: Criterion Games
This Guilford-based studio started out as part of camera makers Canon. Their first big hit was arcade racer Burnout, which has so far gone on to spawn four sequels. Criterion were bought by EA in 2004 and have since also worked on first person shooter Black and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Great NFS comeback! 19 Nov 2010
By keeano
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun:
I was starting to get bored of the NFS series, as Im more into arcadey driving games, and so when I heard about Hot Pursuit I knew I had to get it. Well worth the money. The grapgics are stunning and the game itself its really enjoyable, especially the online mode. There are so many cars which do handle differently to each other, and in the online mode both cops and racers have tools to help them either catch or evade. Played this game almost constantly for 4 hours its that good. The only thing I dont like about it is the cars drift easily round corners, but only as I find it irritating, but the drifts are so easy to control so you wont spin out or anything. Even the single player is great fun, and both career and online you are constantly unlocking new cars or equipment upgrades. For anyone who says 'o its too fake.....' its going to be, its made to be just pure fun and adrenline filled, and what do you expect, the idea of racing a Maserati along coastal roads at 100+ MPH being chased by cops is just never going to happen in reality. If you played Hot Persuit 2, this is basically a far superior version in every single way!!! Well worth getting if you love arcade racers, fast cars and action packed racing!

OK but not stunning. 26 April 2011

Being a long time fan of the NFS series, and really enjoying the chases in the previous games, I purchased this on the day it came out from a local store.

Here are a few quick points for anyone looking to buy.

Gameplay and Controls:

It is immediate that this game is in many ways exactly like burnout, a no way simulation orientated game, and made as accessible as possible. My main gripes with the game are rooted with there being no manual gear option, something I think is a must for any racing game, arcade or not. Also the physics are not up to scratch even for an arcade styled game. There isn't much sense of speed while cornering, and you can pretty much hit them at 150+ and come out fine the other end. Other than these small issues (as I confess to being a sim fan), the missions as both cop and racer are very engaging and addictive, with the exception of the rapid response stages, which can become a little tiresome.

Graphics:

Graphically the game is superb, however the car detailing can be a little 'cartoon' like at times. The scenery and especially the cracks in the tarmac are incredibly detailed for an arcade racer and I have yet to see a big enough flaw to annoy me. Unlike previous games, the graphic detail on other cars (non racing) do not look completely alien to the rest of the game, and have been created with a lot more detail than I had expected.

Sound:

Engine sounds in the game are dependant on the car, and as per all of the need for speed franchise resemble the true article. Some background and crash sounds however can sound a little underwhelming.

Online:

This is where the game redeems itself, you will with the xbox live code become obsessed with battling your mates on Autolog. The Autolog feature also gives you a great platform for sharing stats and pictures from the game, and I would like to see this repeated in later NFS titles.

Verdict:

An addictive arcade racer, but overwhelmingly unrealistic. If you are looking for a bit of a laugh and a perfect game to battle with online, then dont hesitate to buy. After all there is NFS Shift 2 to play if your after a racing sim!

This game is a must buy for any need for speed enthusiast. I must admit it is not as good as most wanted or carbon but still an amazing game with brillaint graphics and the creators of burnout. The whole visuals of the game are brilliant but the bad thing about it is that it does not have a story line. Without the story line you dont get the same tension that you would have got in the previous games in the series. The good thing about it is that you can play as cop or racer. This makes the experience even better. For anybody that likes cars being thrown around the highway driving at 200mph then this is the game to buy i bought it and i love it fun for the whole family :)

Good Game.
Quite an awesome game really, can have fun for about 5 days, after you've got past the first stage it becomes more irritating than anything. But a good game none the less.
