Amazon.co.uk Review

Electronic Arts releases another version of their long-running Need For Speed series, based on the legendary Porsche sports car. As in Need For Speed 4: Road Challenge, Need For Speed: Porsche 2000 is a great racing game.

After viewing the rendered intro sequence, the game contains 24 Porsches to choose from initially, with that number potentially increasing to 74. Each is faithfully recreated for the game, with the games' physics engine encompassing each of the cars unique handling style and personality.

The graphics run smoothly and the sound is ample. It is the game modes, however, where this game shines. I incorporates a career mode, time trials and an evolution mode, where the game gives the player the opportunity to trade and create the ultimate dream Porsche car, the games longevity is not in question. Need For Speed : Porsche 2000 is a worthy addition to the Need For Speed series. --Alex Leung.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still great in 2004! 27 April 2004
If you're wondering how NFS: Porsche 2000 holds up in 2004, it's still agreat game. The graphics still look very good, even if it's not up to thestandard of NFS: Underground. But anyone who's into driving games knowsit's not about graphics - it's about gameplay, replayability and thedriving experience. NFS Porsche scores very heaviliy on all of these.
The evolution mode starts you off in a 1950s clunker of a 356, trundlingalong, frantically dabbing the brakes to try and entice it around cornersat any speed. But it builds beautifully through 5 decades of cars, racingthe same tracks with better and better cars against tougher opponents, introducing a new track now and then to give you a new challenge.
It does have its flaws - for example you can't see the currentchampionship scores between races, and the replay won't allow you tofollow any car but your own... but I'm nit-picking, and the fact that Ihave to search for minor criticisms should tell you how good a game thisis.
This is quite simply a perfectly-paced gem. It's been on my hard drive forfour years, and I've restarted from scratch numerous times just to enjoyit all over again.
If you're a fan of driving games, and you don't have this game - wherehave you been for the last four years? BUY IT!

CMR2 has become boring now for me ... this game represents 'real life driving'... just ask my girlfriend!?!?!
So why should you read on? ... otherwise you will have paid a tenner more than you need to for one of the most encapsulating and accurately modelled driving games I have ever played. Amazon do a DVD packaged version of this game for 8.99 - so go searching for it right now, and when you find it, click on the buy button there instead ... if you regret it, then you have no soul!
I know the NFS team are nutters about cars 'cos this game proves it.
When I return to real life after several hundred (virtual) kilometers of driving, I have to keep reminding myself that I have never been overly fond of Dr Ferdinand's (Porsche) creations, but this game is so good, that I am now being lured into having some affection toward these exciting feats of engineering on wheels!
One other thing - if you don't have a steering wheel for this game, go and get one right now, or don't buy any more driving games until you have one plugged in and configured! This is more important than buying this game - honest!
Simulation driving games now mean that owning a wheel and pedals are a must if you want to get 'anything' out of them ... you have to concede that this is now just another fact of life.
So ... Phil O P Q A [space] just don't cut the mustard any more man!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars NFS: Porsche 2000/Unleashed - spectacular! 23 Mar 2001
By A Customer
My wife bought me NFS: Porsche 2000 and I think she now regrets it! It is an absolutely fantastic game. I have been progressing on both the factory driver and evolution sections and find the game difficult enough to keep me interested but not so difficult I give up. It really does give a wonderful feeling that you are in the various locations driving one of the cars. My only disappointment is that the Carrera 3.2 is not featured (the Porsche that we own in real life).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game lacking one thing 2 Nov 2001
This game is excellent. The graphics are brilliant, with excellent attention paid to car detail. Despite this they are not too taxing on the PC. The realism and accuracy of the physics side of the gameplay is faultless. I have only one quibble with this game and that is the exclusion of a head-to-head two player race mode for when your friends are around. There is online and modem multiplay but splitscreen multiplay would also have been nice. It was something that I was expecting when I bought this game, and it's exclusion disappointed me somewhat.
