From Amazon.co.uk

Equal parts JAG and C.S.I., NCIS does a formidable job of blending relevant military headlines with quirky characters who are tenaciously determined to solve a crime--even if it means having to sleep in the morgue to get a few minutes of shut eye. Created by Donald P. Bellisario (JAG, Quantum Leap), NCIS actually began as a two-part episode of JAG in 2003. Later that year, the drama made its full-season debut on CBS. On this six-disc set, which includes all 23 non-JAG episodes plus optional commentary by Bellisario on the first episode, viewers are introduced to an elite squad of special agents, led by Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon). Gibbs is a hard-nosed investigator who doesn't say much. But when he does, an insult usually comes out of his mouth. He's brilliant when it comes to ferreting out the truth, but he's not savvy enough to figure out how to block his ex-wife's nagging phone calls. Instead, he makes do by destroying his cell phone. Gibbs' team is fleshed out by an eclectic and somewhat eccentric set of colleagues, including medical examiner Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard (David McCallum from The Man from U.N.C.L.E.), wannabe playboy and former homicide detective Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), forensics expert and resident Goth chick Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), and former Secret Service agent Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander).

The murder of a peripheral NCIS agent halfway through the season is a taste of what's to come in future seasons when core characters leave the show (voluntarily or not). But in its first year, the show sets up a strong premise that (while not wholly original) is well executed. One of the more stickling aspects of the show is its reluctance to allow Tony to show signs of maturity. At times, he behaves more like a rambunctious puppy than an ace investigator. --Jae-Ha Kim

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Show! 29 May 2009
Fantastic box set, all 23 gripping episodes. Unfortunately no bonus features.

The series follows Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), a former marine, and his team (Michael Weatherly, Sasha Alexander). The Major-Case team, paired up with a Gothic Forensic Scientist (Pauley Perrette) and an ME who tells stories to his 'patients' (David McCallum) they investigate any crime with a link to the US Navy or Marine Corps, including murder, espionage and terrorism.

Any NCIS fans get this in your basket! If you love dramas this is a good one to get hooked to.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Let's-go-investigate!" 2 Jun 2010
By Jelen
I bought this box purely so that I would have something to do in a case of an emergency (read: lonesome Saturday evening). NCIS is a safe bet. The series is really good entertainment and it doesn't much matter which season you choose. I decided to start from the beginning, again. I've seen the first season (and the second, third...) on TV before, but that was years ago. Right now the season 6 is actually on TV every Tuesday so it is fun to compare the two seasons and see how the characters have evolved during these years.

Usually the plot of each episode isn't anything THAT special (more like regular who-dunnit) but it's the characters that make this show worth watching: they are more eccentric than in a regular cop-series. During the first season the characters are still "raw" but the funny quirkiness of all them is already there. I like talkative Ducky and goth-girl Abby but Tony has always been my personal favorite. I like Tony most because of his good jokes, his bad jokes and his chauvinistic but still child-like views. And his smile. When Kate asks Tony how he got the job in NCIS, he answers: "I smiled." I could believe that.

The series is funny and even though it handles some painful subjects on the side, it doesn't take itself too seriously. NCIS is one of the best "let's-go-and-investigate", "mix-and-match-characters" and "what-do-these-letters-in-the-title-stand-for?" tv-series out there. And believe me, I've seen them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars W00t! 31 Oct 2008
A friend of mine bought me this box set when I was worried about getting a job with my somewhat unconventional dress sense. He told me to 'keep an eye out for Abby'. I soon found out he was talking about Abby Sciuto, the Goth forensic scientist.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am addicted to NCIS for reasons other than Abby (namely - the interaction between the characters is fantastically scripted, the plots are genius, and each and every one of the characters have very unique points that set them apart from the other identikit crime show teams. NCIS is very much a character-driven series, and each character is utterly believeable) but Abby rocks. Seriously.
If you like crime shows with tension, drama, humour and fantastic characters, NCIS is for you. XD
