This is my first sat nav device and I have owned it for a week now...very impressed.

Despite other users having problems setting this device up; i found it very straightforward; GPS locked on within a few minutes and the 3D map is great.

It does only allow you to type in 4 digits of your postcode but this is not really much of an issue as you simply need to also input the streetname of your destination.

The re-route functionality (for when you take a wrong turn) i find to be very efficient.

Add to this the fact that you also have PDA functionality; this really is a great buy.

What a piece of kit for the price! Today I tested it using the built in Smart ST to drive sat nav to the North York Moors. Then I used memory map 1:25k to sat nav a walk around Kepwick. First class accuracy on both counts. However when setting up memory map with the built in GPS set the manufacturer to NMEA (not Navman), the port to com8 and the baud to 9600. Then you will be flying. All this and Word, Exel, and all the other features. What good value- buy it!

Great bit of kit for the money! Bought it for the GPS and it does the job fantastically, - the voice instructions are so good I've put the unit in a bum bag with headphones (reciever poking through the zip) and used it on the bike - a lot chepaer and safer than the dedicated biker GPS's. Cool!

what an amazing improvement!
Smart ST2005 is far far better in every way than the other Navigation Software I have used, both of which were generally fine.Maps are richly detailed, informative, accurate, and colourful. Voice instructions are simply the best I have heard, and again clear, concise, and accurate. You can really rely on them alone, without recourse to the screen, which is something I couldn't quite manage with the others.
Route input and planning is easy, logical and reliable. Turn instructions very clear, and Back on Track re-routing is lightning quick!
All this housed in a stylish PDA running Pocket PC 2003, with all the organisation tools, data management, and diary functions neccessary to me.
I highly recommend this device to others. I love it!

I`ve now had this Navman Pin 570 since December 2005 and although I don`t use every day, I find it very easy to use with clear and accurate voice instructions every time, which then fits very easily into your jacket pocket preventing theft.
I recommend charging the unit every ten days or so if, like me it sits in a drawer until you need it.
The map is slightly out of date but I believe an upgrade is due shortly (Tom Tom maps are also out of date)but this should be ignored as the superior performance is worth it.

Having used this for a couple of weeks on known routes, I can say that the routing software is probably as good as any and the turn by turn advice easy to follow. It is frustrating to set up a route due to the lack of instructions and it has locked up twice now during a journey. This is easily cured by a soft reset but that is not something you want to do while travelling. The unit itself is strongly built but the stylus top has broken off and so far I have been unable to find a replacement. Also the car charger connector keeps falling out of the socket on the unit whilst travelling. As a long time Palm user, I find Pocket PC OS much less friendly to use, but no doubt I will get used to it.

Navman Pin 570. Fantastic GPS system. Purchased a week ago.Ignored recommendations regarding other GPS/PDA systems as this 'does the lot'. For a competent computer user the installation process is pretty much straight forward however, information booklets supplied a little complex in places.
Attempting to track satellites as part of the calibration process
for the Navman Pin 570 was lengthy locking on 40 minutes later (outside of the car) but, due to athermic windscreen had to purchase aerial(Navman mMCX External Antenna, icn 500 series)which now with stronger signal locks on within minutes.
The Pin 570 looks stylish and is robust. The PC Programs are useful inc Media Player 9.The gamble paid off !

I drive trucks for a living and need a reliable sat nav system sadly buying the Navman Pin was a big mistake. On long journeys >100miles it invariably locks up completely which requires a hard reset this means an involved process of recalibrating the screen running "the using the pda" and smartST tutorials and then inputing the destination information.
Other shortcomings include the lack of full postcode support and a predictive input system in smartST which is annoying and needs disabling so you can input a destination before the device siezes upon one usually wrongly. The maps are out of date and are not likely to be replaced any time soon. There are a large number of satnav systems available which are far superior for little more cost.
