A great deck, but novices: beware! 3 Aug. 2005
By Emily F. Carrington - Published on
Format: Cards
I was given this deck as a gift just over a year ago as my introduction to tarot.

Inspired by Thoth and largely based on the principals of Hermetic Kabbalah/Qabbalah, the 'Tree of Life' appears to be the "root" or theme of this deck. Beautiful and esoteric, but perhaps not one that is recommended for most tarot beginners.

As shown, the deck is of standard size. A few of the Major Arcana cards are re-named from their standard titles. The 'suits' are standard: Pentacles, Swords, Cups, Wands. The 'court' cards are standard: King, Queen, Knight, Page. There is a single word above each card's image that attempts to sum up the meaning of the card. There is no other lettering, nor is there traditional numbering on these cards. On the back of each card is the image of the 'Tree of Life'.

This deck is deeply focused on one's own spiritual journey, of personal search and awakening, and thus it is suggested that the deck be used as intuitively as possible. This is partially why the deck is not recommended for most beginners, however if you think you're up for the challenge, it offers a wonderful learning experience.

A major highlight of this deck: the cards are absolutely *loaded* with imagery, symbolism, puns, and a sense of deeper hidden meaning. I have had these cards for over a year now and I find myself still discovering new perspectives and new meanings that I had never noticed before.

There is a small paper booklet that comes with this deck that includes very brief explanations of the cards, a unique spread layout, and a small blurb on the deck's history.

An instructional paperback book, which explains the meaning of the cards and how to use the deck in depth, can be purchased separately.

Whether your interest in this deck is for serious tarot purposes, or you simply enjoy the vivid artwork, I do believe this deck is a treasure to behold. Also an excellent addition to any collection.

This item is just the book... 1 Sept. 2000

I just got this book. I thought it was a set but it's not. Anyway, the book has B&W pics of every card together with the card's meaning and symbolism. They are very artistic and full of symbols. I would reccommend the deck just from what I've seen in the book. They are based on the Kabbala system, like the Thoth Tarot Deck which I already have. I think the Thoth cards are more artistic, but the books you can get for the Thoth deck are not as informative or as easy to use or interpret. I think that a Tarot beginner would be better off with the Navigators Deck and book.

Journey to the Heart of the Cabala 21 Aug. 2000
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Paperback
This book/deck set is one of the best I have ever used. The artist/author uses both Jungian psychology and symbolism to help guide the reader on a spiritual journey. I have used this book/deck set often and found it to be most useful in helping clients understand their lives more deeply. The paintings are also very beautiful. Each card is rich with symbolism that helps to support the message that the card delivers. I highly recommend this book/deck set to anyone interested in a more esoteric Tarot based on the Hermetic Cabala.

Julia is a true Tarot Master 30 July 2009
By Joy Andis - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The tarot deck I purchased first, the book came out later. I have been a tarot reader for many years, and while the non traditional decks (such as this one) creat an opportunity for a more intuitiver reading, at that time I will admit I wasn't too geared for that. However, that has changed over the years, I have become more and more interested in Kabballa and it's symbolism in conjunction to tarot is obvious. julia with her unique artwork got me interested (for the first time) in the kabballa, and it's cornerstone to the systems of magick I have explored have made this a must have.

The book shows you the artists interpretation of the Major arcana, the court cards, the pips and how on the tree of life they relate to each of us and to each other.
While I don't think I would recommend this if you are just learning tarot, I have to say that it is a necesssary addition to any serious tarot practioner's collection.
Becoming one of my very favourites! 6 April 2011

I have had this deck for over two years but was unable to use it immediately. However, as soon as I did, I found it great to work with. It is pretty straightforward in answering questions with great accuracy and timeliness. I am currently using the deck for my "TAROT card of the day." This deck is fast becoming one of my very favourites.

For beginners, the images and colours in each deck can really help draw out one's intuition. You can explore each card by drawing out your initial thoughts about the imagery. The little white book (LWB) is concise and helpful.

It will also be a delight for those experienced in the TAROT because of the Hermetic and Qabbalistic associations. Collectors must have one. Each card is truly a work of art!
