Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

Jose Padilla, the godfather of chill out returns with his second album Navigator, twelve new tracks of blissful summer vibes complete with beach-like sound effects and flamenco guitar. It is a shame that his reputation precedes him in that whatever he has produced since the Café Del Mar series is often termed "chill out", a definition which is by no means descriptive enough for his music. The instrumentation is fittingly subtle with no overbearing clichés or noodling for noodling's sake. Instead it unfolds from the Spanish vibes of castanets and guitars with background breaks providing just enough percussion. "Adios Ayer" features the vocal talent of Seal and has an uplifting melody over an impressive-sounding orchestra which is cut up by a wah wah guitar chopping it's funky way through the sprightly wall of sound. It's not all so acoustic and earthy with tracks like "Lontano" tearing it up with a mood akin to Roni Size's "Brown Paper Bag" but without the dark overtones amid its manic breaks and double bass. The overall stand-out track has to be the collaboration with N'dea Davenport (former Brand New Heavies) on a re-working of Burt Bacharach's "The Look of Love" which seamlessly blends all manner of style and timbre and places them in an imaginative arrangement that transcends the usual boundaries of dance music and makes for compelling listening. --David Trueman

5.0 out of 5 stars A magnificent second CD 27 July 2001
Format:Audio CD
Since Jose Padilla ceased doing the Cafe Del Mar series, they have in my mind deterited (however Bruno's No 7 was still superb). This albulm captures the best of Cafe Del Mar in Jose's own albulm. A fine mix of dub and vocal tracks encourage you to lay back and close your eyes, and let your mind take you on a journey of emotions. For me the best tracks are Navigator parts 1 and 2, however it's difficult to choose. Enjoy

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected! 4 July 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I did a search on Amazon for "Trance" music and this CD was included. Why? I would pigeon-hole it as "Easy Listening" and certainly not what I expected, so I was somewhat disappointed, but we all make mistakes don't we? For the style of music on the CD, it is at best "plesant" but I'm affraid that Jose Padilla hasn't won me over as a fan. I should have checked my iTunes library for this guy before I bought it as there are a few of his works on other compilation albums and I rated none of them worthy of more than 3-stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs - ever 3 Oct 2002
By Christian - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
If you want to relax, enjoy music, and dream of beautiful sunsets in the Mediterranean, you should buy this CD. It's as least as good as the Cafe del Mar series, and has some very emotional tracks.
If you think this is "boring", you're apparently deaf. Every single one of the songs is memorable, especially the new versions of "Who do you love" and "Adios Ayer" feat. Seal. THIS IS A MUST BUY FOR EVERYONE WHO ENJOYS MUSIC!

4.0 out of 5 stars cafe del mar, the next generation 25 Nov 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
After listening to this album a few more times, I may bump my rating to a 5 star. After becoming hooked on the Cafe del Mar series after a trip to Mykonos last year, I've been searching for more Jose Padilla. A wise choice above the import. Although he has left the helm at Cafe del Mar, those who liked him there will not be disappointed with his cd. Don't look for a repeat of old stuff, though. Jose Padilla hasn't lost his touch, so although he has changed with the times, expect another cd of chill out bliss...

5.0 out of 5 stars Adios Ayer.... 16 Oct 2001
By Leung Pak Keung - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
All started when I first saw the MV of Adios Ayer on TV.... I loved it and cried when I heard the lyrics as I've just broken up with my lover and his image still appears in my mind every time I play adios ayer now. BTW, the whole album is fantastic and it is a huge improvement from Padilla's debut album. I'm looking forward to the third.

4.0 out of 5 stars The don of downtempo 23 Sep 2001
By CODED1 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
In these trying times a cd like this is a very valuable asset. Jose has once again achieved a high standard of downtempo tunes. If you love beautiful strings and intricate little melodies moving in and out you will love this. The sound of summer in the evening under a palm tree with your sweetheart. Also check Zero 7 for more great stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good 27 Aug 2001
By George Adamopoulos - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
If you liked Cafe del Mar volumes 1 to 5, then you are going to like this record too. Plain and simple, this is classic Jose Padilla. If you liked him before, get this recording also.
