Book Description

20 Aug 2008 0240810163 978-0240810164
Have you ever wondered what it is that professional photographers do day in and day out that enables them to take consistently compelling images? Or thought that unravelling the insider secrets of the professionals could inspire you? This book takes a contemporary and innovative approach to revealing the day-to-day habits of the world's most successful wildlife, landscape and macro photographers, divulging the core skills and techniques through which they excel.

This book is crammed full with expert advice taken from the world's leading pros directly from the field. It will empower the development of your skills to a professional level and fire your imagination. Starting with the basics of how to plan a rewarding field trip (whether locally or afar) for one day or a month, and covering all aspects of camera handling and photographic technique including: how to make perfect exposures every time, ensure pin-sharp images of moving subjects, decipher the complexities of camera menus and controls, and break through the mysteries of composition.

And, having learned the secrets to success, the book maps out some simple yet powerful photo exercises and self-assignments to encourage you to explore all facets of digital photography and put into practice the essential skills that will make you, too, a highly successful photographer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 16 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
Before i bought this book i thought i knew a fair bit about photography, but was i wrong! This book covers the essentials for great outdoor photography, nature, wildlife and landscapes, but a lot of the tips could be applied to general photography. This book takes you from the real basics i.e, understanding the various settings on your camera right through to the more advanced i.e,how to plan a field trip and how to create a well composed picture that is pleasing to the eye. I couldn't put this book down and read it in one and a half days. It is well written with plenty of humour and anecdotes and is (as you would imagine) full of fantastic pictures that make you want to grab your camera and get out and about. I know i will be referring back to this book for many years to come. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 21 May 2010
By Gabs
Format:Paperback
This book is wonderful! I am a beginner in the world of photography and previously found a couple of similar introductory books too technical and frankly just too dry to get into. This book provides all the explanation one needs to get the basic concepts and does it in a captivating manner - I just couldn't put it down. It will definitely remain on the top of the book shelf as a favourite reference for a while to come!

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful in places, Lacking in others 6 Nov 2011
By DavidA
Format:Paperback
Having bought the book a while ago to get some helpful hints for better photography. The book, very well written falls down on one key issue. The images are excellent, but the author fails to give technical details on shutter speed and aperture. The image I have in mind is a B&W shot of a little waterfall. It is obvious that a slow shutter speed has been used to blur the movement of the water, but let us in on this important detail. That's my main crit, otherwise the book is a good buy.
