1.0 out of 5 stars humorous debut novel lacking polish, 31 July 2009
This review is from: The Nature of the Beast (Paperback)
I found this debut novel slightly humorous but thought the narrative was unevenly paced with characters which were almost northern stereotypes. The book could have used the services of a good editor or proof reader as unfortunately, it was replete with spelling and grammatical mistakes which I found distracting. The writer overused similes and metaphors and I found some of the prose stilted. Overall, I thought it was a good effort for a first novel and I liked the humour but it needed polishing.

Really enjoyed this book - fantastic for a first time effort. Good plotline in which the characters are 3 dimensional and believable, and there are some truly laugh out loud moments along the way. Bring on the next one a.s.a.p.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut, 4 Aug 2009

Energetic, brash and peppered with bleak humour; this book contains a fascinating mixture of indignation, jaundice and optimism. Great characters, the extraordinary made real. This is an enthralling debut from an author with great promise and an original voice.
