A NATURALIST in the HIGHLANDS is an illustrated record of the travels of James Robertson, a young botanist from Edinburgh, through the Highlands and lslands of Scotland from 1767-1771. Although Robertson's principal purpose was to observe and list the plants growing in different areas, he also provided fascinating accounts of the people, places and customs he came across, as well as describing the agriculture, geology and land structures, trees, animals and prehistoric ruins of each district. The book also contains details of Robertson's family background and later achievements in both India and Scotland.
