Russell Blaylock is a neuroscientist and nutritionist. I first came across his writing in the preface to Neil Z. Miller's Vaccine Safety Guide , where his foreword alerted me to the risks and side effects on the brain, of common vaccines. In this book, he details the damaging and dangerous side effects of the standard cancer treatments, and how these can be mitigated through nutritional supplements. It is a richly detailed book, written with a clinical and scientific undertanding of the subject, but in a warm and readable style. There is so much information here, on the cancer enhancing or cancer forming effects of common food additives such as MSG, Aspartame or Carageenan, that you'll probably end up wondering what on earth is good to eat! Blaylock writes from the American dietary perspective, where diabetes and other diet related conditions are endemic, and it's wise to remember this while reading: the UK standard diet however, is not that distant from the American, and alcohol and sugar rich diets already have visible results on the streets of Britain.
When my husband recently completed a short course of chemotherapy, he had a sudden and unexplained collapse which put him in the high dependency ward. All we were told was that these things happen after chemo. In this book there is detailed information about the effects of chemo and radiotherapy on the body generally, not just on the targetted cancer. What Blaylock reveals, are things your oncologist probably doesn't know, and things hospital staff are equally ignorant of. The importance of diet, what you put into your body is fundamental, and of vital importance once you become a cancer patient. While reading Blaylock's book, we came across a paragraph which explained clearly exactly what had happened to my husband, and we came to realise how lucky we were that the usual treatment for such collapses had not actually killed him. The saying that if the cancer doesn't kill you the chemotherapy probably will, is not because of the awfull side effects during treatment; hair loss, diarrhea, mouth blisters, loss of natural immunity etc., but because years later, the damage chemo has caused on other, previously healthy organs and functions can be life threatening and is often, fatal. None of these things are mentioned by standard oncologists.
Many will find the information Blaylock provides is simply overhwelming, and very hard to put into practice. But where there's a will, there's a way. I read the book in non-consecutive sequence, dipping in to find out about specific symptoms and remedies, to read from cover to cover can be a deeply disturbing overload of bad news, if you are currently undergoing or about to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy. You should know these things: what you eat now and during your treatment can drastically improve your recovery and quality of life throughout the treatment and afterwards. The truth as revealed by Blaylock and many other alternative practitioners, is that cancer is treatable using less dangerous and readily available supplements and minerals. The lie we are all brainwashed into accepting is that chemo and radiotherapy are the only treatments available. Indeed the lies are compounded by the smoke and mirrors surrounding the statistics which say early treatment practically guarrantees a cure, and the official line which states that Big Pharma is working to find a cure. They are working to increase their profits through the use of extremely dangerous, poisonous and expensive 'treatments', whose side effects will simply cancel out the cancer because they can be fatal.
Blaylock's natural strategies primarily involve changing your eating habits. By the time you've finished the book, you'll see supermarket shelves as sources of cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Even organic produce doesn't get the all clear from Blaylock's intense scrutiny, but this is because he is a specialist and perfectionist, something most of us simply can't afford to be. Modern western life means we are now all contaminated by plastics and heavy metals, and we continue to contaminate ourselve using the every day cosmetic products filled with parabens and other damaging chemicals, all of which enhance the likelihood of developing cancer at some stage. If you want to follow a cancer preventative life style, you'd better find a deserted island to start from scratch. But if you are willing to change your habits to drastically reduce your risk, take the information Blaylock provides and apply it sensibly to yourself and your family.
An excellent source of practical information, but I recommend you read a few other books on the same subject (alternative cancer treatments) to gain a balanced strategy you can apply personally, since Blaylock's unflinching scrutiny can be overwhelming and ultimately confusing. There is no straightforward, one-size-fits-all strategy to take, just as there is no `cure' for cancer. To sum up Blaylock's research would leave you with a diet of liquidised, raw organic vegetables, the ocassional piece of fruit, and a cupbord full of vitamin and mineral supplements; not what most of us consider life enhancing. But the information he provides concerning dietary supplements such as high dosage vitamins A, B, C & D, mineral supplements such as CoQ10, selenium, magnesium and the vital elements found in common vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, celery, or artichokes, as well as less well known curcuma from the turmeric spice, the specific qualities of certain oils (olive oil above all,) herbs and fruit derivatives (resveratrol from grape skins) is immediately available for you to apply to your new life style.
Contrary to what standard alopathic medics will argue, all of Blaylock's advice is backed by extensive clinical trials, and more importantly by a few thousand years of practical experience, as well as his own and his colleagues' hands-on experience. Most supporters of alopathic-only medicine fail to realise that the human race survived well without the modern petrochemically derived drugs, all of which have harmfull side effects. Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine all have long traditions of using the same herbal and mineral supplements Blaylock and many other alternative practitioners advocate. This doesn't mean he recommends you turn your back on modern treatments, but it does mean your perception of the effectiveness and usefullness of these treatments will be severely challenged.
