If you let anyone borrow this book it will be a very long time before you have it returned and you will miss it! This is not a book that you can lightly read, it is more of a handbook of horse answers. The book inspired me to work on the Parelli Levels system and once I started applying the practical side to my horses the book fitted into place. It shows how to inspire your horse to have confidence in you and trust that you are not the predator that he once thought you were. Read the book try out a few simple games and you will most probably be hooked on Natural Horse-Man-Ship.

This book should be a required read for anyone who is interested in caring for horses to the best of their ability and look after their mind, as well as their body, whether they be horse owners, horse workers, equestrians, or just an occasional rider. A book full of 'true knowledge' which teaches what is required to gain 'the knack' or 'gift' with horses.
Parelli, who is very experienced and knowledgable in the theory and practice of horse training, psychology and behaviour, gives us an understanding of how horses think and learn, so that we can learn to be more sympathetic, learning to do things with the horse, not to the horse, so that the horse can become a willing, safe, happy partner and enjoy your company too.
Parelli stresses that since 99% of problems with horses are 'problem people' not 'problem horses' his book is really a people-training book. He has developed a step by step program that is easily followed, that enables anyone with a fair attitude and fee! ling towards the horse to acheive outstanding results with any horse.

Owning what was termed an "unrideable horse" I plodded away for nearly a year gaining the trust and working with our Caity. Pat Parelli could have saved me much time had I discovered this book earlier. His philosophy is mine. This was what I was looking for. I discovered happily that I was not a "horsey person" - much relief. His teaching is natural and the book emphasises both the rider's and the horse's responsibilities. Tried and tested his methods - they really work.

Parelli has his own sometimes irritating style of expression, but the principles and practices outlined in the book are exciting, and the pictures are fantastic. In my opinion, one would need more information than this to put his work confidently into practice. However, additional material is available on his websites, and he travels enough that one could see him in action without too much effort.
To our dismay, our softcover copy, after two thorough readings, feel into four segments. I recommend a hard copy if you can get one.

Without a doubt, this is the greatest book written. Subject content is rivaled by no other and the photography is done well too. As I said, I think this book should accompany every horse sold around the world--we'd end up with less "problems" involving horses and human & equine alike could finally benefit from their togetherness.
Bravo Parelli, and those who teach the NATURAL way.

I read this book alongside Richard Maxwell's 'Unlock your horse's talent' in many ways they are similar, Parelli's book is less colourful but alot more in depth of the subject. I found it a very useful book for training my young horse, Maxwell teachs the basic but Parelli takes it to a whole new level, highly recommended!

It's 20 years since I last had a young horse and I must have been very lucky in the 2 young horses & the ex-racing pacer I had as we got along together very well. My new little chap was left tied-up, very thin etc.etc. He's got the nicest nature a horse can have and deserves the best, as all horses do. I bought Parelli's Get Started video at £20+ but the next ones were too expensive so I bought this book - Parelli's first, I think. The Parellis have come a long way since this was written but it is, nevertheless, a good start and easy to understand. I'm not a club joiner, but I've joined the Savvy Club! My little fellow and I are on a learning journey, he's learning quicker than me!
