I found this book to be an amazingly gripping story. The main character is a recluse, who lives in a lighthouse and never speaks to anyone. He moved there 24 years ago, in an effort to hide from the public after he killed 78 people. He 'talks' to his victims in his dreams. Then he meets a school caretaker who has recently moved into a cottage in a nearby village. He starts a friendship with her and helps to fix her home up. Together they discover that she has inherited an old aircraft. In the meantime, the relatives of the people he killed, have all got together for the 25th anniversary of their loved ones deaths, and decided to hunt him down.
This book is full of warmth and gentle humor, and shows just how resilient people can be. An excellent piece of writing which will have you turning the pages faster and faster. Clare Morall is definitely an author whose work I will keep an eye on. I can't wait for her next book.

I finished reading this book last weekend. It's now Wednesday and am still thinking about it hence this review entry.
As other reviews have stated the story unfolds at a gentle pace, adding together present and past lives like building blocks. The story shows us that we are a world of individuals whose lives have a tendency to crash into each other. The effects of such events can last for years if we allow them to............and yes I cried at the end.

I have just finished this book and really enjoyed it - the ability of the author to give away a steady trickle of information slowly throughout the book means there are surprises and twists right until the very end. I loved the two main characters in the book - both so odd, yet likeable in all their failings. This is an easy read but still leaves you feeling satisfied - I'd recommend it.
