Product Description

Product Description

Elevated cholesterol and C-reactive proteins are markers linked to heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular disorders. It is estimated that millions of people worldwide suffer from these conditions. To combat these problems, modern science has created a group of drugs known either as statins or as specific commercial drugs, such as Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol. While over 20 million people take these medications, the fact is that up to 42 percent experience side effects, and a whopping 60 to 70 percent eventually quit treatment. Fortunately, other options are available. Here, for the first time, is a concise guide that explains the problems caused by statins, and offers easy-to-follow strategies that will allow you to benefit from effective natural alternatives. Written by a highly qualified researcher and physician, NATURAL ALTERNATIVES TO LIPITOR, ZOCOR & OTHER STATIN DRUGS begins by explaining elevated cholesterol and C-reactive proteins. It then examines how statins work to alleviate these problems, and discusses possible side effects. Finally, the author highlights the most important natural alternatives, providing information on the science behind their claims, their proven effectiveness, and their suggested dosage. If you have elevated cholesterol and C-reactive proteins, or if you are currently using a statin, NATURAL ALTERNATIVES TO LIPITOR, ZOCOR & OTHER STATIN DRUGS can make a profound difference in the quality of your life.

If you are interested in your health and particularly your heart health, this little book may be useful to you.

I have read a number of books on this subject and would say this isnt the best of those books. I did expect a lot more from the titile. Saying that dont dismiss it, the information was useful and quite concise, but for this reason I only gave three stars, possibly a little harsh but I felt it didnt warrant four stars.

If you have heart disease or known someone who has, then you should read books on the effect of inflammation on the heart and the body in general, since this is the problem. Cholesterol is not the killer we are led to believe, and Statins are not the cure all drug in respect of heart disease. Read books by Duane Graveline M.D. a NASSA astronaut and M.D. AND scientist. He has written extensively on the use of Statin drugs and their effects and their alternatives. He has 5 or 6 books available here on Amazon.

If you have high cholesterol ask your Dr why you have it...its a symptom of a disease not a disease itself and so treating the high cholesterol levels with drugs such as Statins is not treating the cause...which may be hypothyroidism, since high cholesterol is one of its many symptoms and Statins are contraindicated in such circumstances.

Read more and educate yourself if you have these problems and this book is one good place to start, but dont stop here either.

Maybe I expect too much, but by the time you have ploughed through the book, you end up having learnt nothing you didn't know already, trouble is it is an American publication, and really not suitable for us Brits !

Cheap and cheerful 11 Mar 2011
By chazza
Format:Paperback
I bought this because it was cheap, and might have contained an answer to my problem which is to find a way of reducing cholesterol without drugs.

It doesn't look complete to me. For example there is one short reference to Vitamin C which is a sure fire way of reducing cholesterol but no assessment in the body of the book.

Its also said that statins reduce heart attacks by 30%. This is not always true. Crestor for example manages about 1%, and modern research suggests that statins are GENERALLY ineffective in their aims.

I'll have to read the book very carefully ! I think I'm glad I bought it, but take care.
