Amazon Review

Joint pains, mood swings, hot flushes: all of them symptoms of the onset of the menopause, all of them alarming physically and psychologically. No woman can avoid the menopause itself but there are ways of getting through it, whether by taking the HRT option or looking at a more natural approach.

The choice, and indeed the treatment and consequences, differs greatly from woman to woman but The Natural Alternative to HRT Cookbook aims to show how all women can benefit from a diet high in phytoestrogens--a substance found naturally in many plant foods and which are becoming increasingly more acceptable amongst the medical profession as well as with practitioners of more holistic methods.

Marilyn Grenville advises following the recipes in the book as a way to control menopausal symptoms and claims that the other benefits of the diet includes the prevention of osteoporosis, maintain a healthy heart, protect against cancer, minimise aching joints and stiffness, prevent degenerative diseases like arthritis, bring you good mental health, slowdown the ageing process and control weight naturally. No small claims but the point is that the recipes are easy to follow and very, very tempting as well as being balanced and, providing there is no sensitivity to any of the ingredients, it makes perfect sense to try it. --Susan Harrison

5.0 out of 5 stars Healthy Recipe Ideas for the Menopause 23 Nov 2002
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
A wonderful cookbook for women of all ages who are interested in eating for health, especially for those approaching the Menopause. Marilyn Glenville, an expert on women's healthcare presents us with a wide selection of sumptuous recipes, bursting with healthful 'phytoestrogens' and 'isoflavones'. Aesthetically pleasing with beautiful food photography and well laid out for ease of use.
In the first section she shares her expertise with us, providing us with a simple and informative explanation of the menopause, the role of hormones and how diet can help eliminate unpleasant menopausal symptoms. Particularly useful is the introduction to the recipes which gives shopping and cooking tips. Also, at the back of the book is a shoppers guide with telephone numbers of stockists of many of the items mentioned in the book.

Useful information on hormones and how affected but recipes have too many ingredients for my liking so probably won't use and will look again
