Product Description

Seasonal, semi-improvised British comedy starring Martin Freeman and Ashley Jensen. Shabby, under-achieving primary school teacher Mr Maddens (Freeman) works at a school that competes annually with a local private school for the best production of the Christmas nativity play. Tired of always playing second fiddle to his arch rival, Gordon Shakespeare (Jason Watkins), Maddens idly concocts a white lie centred around his ex-girlfriend, Hollywood producer Jennifer (Jensen), in which he boasts that she is coming to see his play with a view to turning it into a film. What he omits to mention is that he and she have not spoken to one another for years. Now, with the expectations and burning ambitions of parents and pupils running high, can he possibly turn his elaborate fiction into reality in time to make everyone's Christmas wishes come true?

4.0 out of 5 stars HEARTFELT FESTIVE FUN 9 Mar 2010
Format:DVD
Martin Freeman is his usual loaveable self and the kids are adorable and hilarious in equal measure. Is it cheesy? Yes but what else do you want from a Christmas film?! Pure entertaining, emotive Christmas fun for the whole family.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic feel-good film! 4 April 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I actually saw this a week after Christmas and immediately wanted to watch it again the next day! For that reason I can't wait for this to be released.
There are not many British Christmas films but this is the best I've seen. Even better than Love, Actually.
The characters are so warm you'll forgive any situations that seem implausible. The children are not your usual stage-school kids and that is the key to the film's success. They are totally natural and lovable!
Martin Freeman plays his usual persona and very good he is too. Standouts for me were Pam Ferris and Ashley Jensen. Initially I wasn't sure about the character of teaching assistant Mr Poppy but his child-like enthusiasm won me over. Alan Carr was brilliant too!

I'm going to buy this and save it to watch on Christmas Eve. This would make a great Christmas present for those that like laughing!

3.0 out of 5 stars Childrens' film
I bought this after reading the reviews on it but after watching it thought it is really a film for children. Pretty boring with predictable outcome.
