CD Description

Special Limited Deluxe Collector s Edition / Two bonus tracks / Fully remastered sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / 16 page full colour booklet 4,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and full involvement from the artist STRANGEWAYS DEBUT album signalled the start of a intense love affair between the band and fans of melodic rock but it was the appearance of Native Sons that took that spark of romance and turned it into an explosive cauldron of red-hot passion. As one of the defining albums of the burgeoning 80s AOR scene Native Sons is recognised as a classic of the genre, a record that should have turned this relatively unassuming band into household names.Formed in Scotland, the band s fortunes had been impeded by a crucial line up change just after the release of their debut album with frontman Tony Liddle exiting. His replacement was Atlanta, Georgia based vocalist Tony Brock, a man who had been carving out a solid career in the US as an in-demand backing vocalist, including work with Kansas. It was Brock who supplied the ingredient that would take them to a level of sophistication that previously they had only hinted at.A voice like an angel, Brock s inate ability to squeeze out the maximum melodic goodness from every track, coupled with his and Ian Stewart s remarkable song writing ability produced a record that connoisseurs of the genre believe easily rivals the best work of Journey, Foreigner and Survivor. Originally issued in 1988, Native Sons is a stunning collection of songs and performances that has dated not one jot. It is arguably one of the top five AOR albums of all time.

Even if it isn't the greatest ever, it must be close to being the most complete melodic rock album ever and one of the greatest ever released. Featuring a brillant vocal performance from Terry Brock, the album has ten very tight beautifully crafted tracks. Even though all these numbers are identifable as being products of the eighties (the album was first released in 1986) they contain the best of that decade, lush keyboards, driving rythmn and massive hooks, not to mention those epic harmonies and choruses. Although they never re-caputured the heights that this album scales, it remains an outstanding legacy and contribution to the sphere of AOR. Enjoy.

This album is a classic slice of Journey-esque rock. Although the band are Scottish they have an amazing lead singer in Canadian Terry Brock. His voice on this album is as good as it gets. Great production as well. The follow up Walk In The Fire is just as good. If your a sucker for 80's AOR don't miss this!

AOR Heaven! 7 Aug 2010
Format:Audio CD
This band are a recent discovery for me thanks to Amazon (though I bought it on Ebay!) It seems it's not that easy to get hold of which is a tragedy as this album is a real masterpiece. It goes without saying if you like AOR, soft rock, driving music you will love this album. Very similar to Journey and that's no bad thing. Why this band weren't huge is a real mystery.
