This book is an excellent detailed study of life as a foriegner in revolutionary France. This book makes the valid point that, whilst the French Revolution brought about massive change and freedom for French citizens, foriegners had a very different experience. Rapport writes with clarity and a genuine enthusiasm for his subject. This makes it even more of a pity that the price is so prohibitive. If this book was more widely avaliable, it would be a must have for anyone with an interest in revolutionary France. As it stands, serious scholars should still go out of their way to read this. Altogether excellent!
