Product Description

Product Description

Broken into 9 regions, the tour begins in Cairo and proceeds to the Delta and Suez, Alexandria, the Western Desert, Middle Egypt, Luxor, Aswan, and finally the Red Sea and Sinai. Among its great new features are a plethora of new experiences you can have, among them how to talk like an Egyptian, ride a camel properly, learn to belly dance, and travel in the footsteps of the Holy Family. You'll find three-dimensional drawings of the Al-Azhar Mosque and the Pyramids, as well as detailed floor plans, including one for the Egyptian Museum. Guided walking tours explore daily life, including a stroll in downtown Cairo and a visit to Literary Alexandria. An extensive section on the country's history and culture leads the guide, while detailed sidebars - on Egyptian birds, mummies, and cruising the Nile, to name a few - add further depth to your visit. And, equipped with this guide's indispensable regional and neighborhood maps, you shouldn't get lost.

About the Author

Brought up in northern England, Andrew Humphreys first traveled to Egypt in 1988 on a brief holiday, but he liked it so much he decided not to go home. Since then his life has been divided between the colour and chaos of Cairo, and the rather more leaden skies and ordered deadlines of the London publishing world. On assignment for a variety of periodicals, including National Geographic Traveler and The Wall Street Journal, over the years, he has explored every part of Egypt, cruising Lake Nasser, watching the sun rise from Mount Sinai, and sleeping beneath the stars in the Grand Sand Sea.

Great Introduction 4 Dec 2009
By CKC - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This guide book is a great introduction to Egypt and preparation for a trip there. It is very readable and the notes from National Geographic staffers add insight. I made me realize we have not schedule enough time to see all that we should see. CKC
