A Kid's Review
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
My 8 year old daughter selected this herself with Amazon tokens (with a bit of guidance). The microscope itself is a brillant learning tool for kids to explore and understand their environment better. I would have liked more prepared slides, but then I suppose we can make as many as we'd like as the microscope kit comes with everything you need to become a junior scientist. In sum, good value for money and if you have a budding scientist in your family, or just a curious child, this gives you a tool to help expand their horizons.

This microscope was a good introduction to studying 'close-up' but it did not have a lot of the fun extras that my other child's microscope has (which was cheaper, actually)- like viewing through different coloured lenses or a splicer device to cut up the specimens. I was enticed by the 'National Geographic' name but was just a little disappointed. However, good, standard microscope with great viewing that you just have to add your own excitement to (we used dead flies and wasps for that - fascinating!).

I bought this microscope for my 7 yr old Grand-daughter for Christmas. She has a keen interest in science and the environment.
What a disappointment, the whole instrument is flimsy and virtually impossible to focus. After an initial interest she put it back in the box where it stayed.

Great basic microscope
Great basic microscope, ideal for examining a range of things. Some nice samples to get started, and got my 6 yr old excited to look at more things.

Fundamentally flawed
The microscope is fundamentally flawed as the built-in light shines from underneath the object being viewed. Read more

Very Poor Indeed
OK so its cheap. BUT...

Not so so much something for nothing as nothing for the money
Thankfully, I was never tempted by the ridiculous 1200X tag for this product. I saw one being used by a friend's child and had a look at it. What junk! Read more

Waste of money
Grandchildren looked at it once, couldn't see any difference in the sample slides, might have been looking at the same thing!!

Disappointment from National geographic
I bought this for my 8 year old grandson who has been most disappointed in it. It's difficult to use and fails to live up to the standard expected of this well-known name. Read more
