Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Ok so I had to credit some of this review to my nephew too. We both been playing about with this walkie talkie and had lots of fun - in and out of the house, up and down the stairs especially in making him come and eat his tea! Reasonable size and durable. Easy to operate. Required 2 9 v batteries which is screwed into the unit. Lots of giggle, lot of fun, just need at least 2 person to play with and at least one to move about.

Instant Hit! 25 Nov 2009
By Cheshire Cat TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Five days after it arrived, we are having difficulty prising the walkie talkie from our 6 yr old daughter's hands!

Tad sceptical before it arrived expecting the normal 'looks good but doesn't actually work very well' scenario so common to toys at this price level but, very pleasantly surprised at the units' excellent performance. Inside and out in the elements,a small pose of 6 yr olds (boys AND girls)have declared it a hit and, so far, it has withstood the normal level of abuse that young children give out.

So, we already think it has been value for money and doesn't show signs of being discarded soon. The Morse Code aspect is intriguing our daughter and I can see that coming into its own soon.

My only quibble is that it uses the more expensive PP3 batteries which were not the type we kept as a norm in the house. That said, the batteries are holding out.

So 5/5 with my only qualification being the batteries not being included. Take note so Santa remembers to get the right battery!

Other than that,a huge hit in the Cheshire Cat household.

Limited 23 Nov 2009
By D. Elliott TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
This pair of National Geographic walkie-talkies is acceptable as a toy (described as for ages 4 and up) but the limited range of 200 metres and the immediate drop in performance indoors restrict use from more demanding purposes (such as between vehicles travelling together). The units are generally child-friendly - made of plastic but sturdy, and the antenna are rubbery and appear safe enough. For each unit there is a combined on/off and volume rotating switch, a speak button, and a call-alert (to use this it is necessary to press speak button and alert button together). Batteries (expensive 9 volt PP3 `transistor' type) are NOT included but should give a reasonable length of service. However the Instruction Manual recommends that when units are not in use the batteries be removed to prevent leakage. The Manual is easily understood and satisfactory, and includes information on Morse Code. For adults this may defeat the object of a `talkie' but for children this can increase `attention span' to learn Morse Code and to enjoy creating `secret' messages - though the Morse sound is a ringing noise (as call-alert) rather than the more usual beep. The units come in National Geographic colours (black unit/yellow buttons) and have a belt clip. Nice play-things but limited.

Good value
Bought these walkie talkies for my young nephew as he's not much of a talker and I hoped this would encourage him to talk and interact more with people. He loves them.

Really Disappointed!
These seem to be hit or miss from reading the reviews and we missed! The static means you can't hear a thing and the morse button doesn't work. Read more

Very poor quality
This is a terrible product. The walkie talkies can't contact each other across 50m of clear open lawn. Poor battery life, poor durability. NatGeo should be ashamed.
