Product Description

Along the coast of British Columbia lies an enchanted wilderness, where bear-hunting wolves take to the sea and grizzlies clash in titanic battles. In this magical, yet forbidding place, wildlife coexists and behaves as nowhere else on earth. Here, mountain walls rise vertically from the sea. Giant moss-laden trees live more than 1,500 years and tower 300 feet. Every inch of this rainforest teems with life - wolves, wolverines, otters, marbled murrelets, eagles, killer whales, bears and wild salmon are the pulsing lifeblood of an entire ecosystem. As this precious arc of habitat faces an uncertain future, threatened by chainsaws and fish farms, a team of dedicated scientists are racing to prove that it must be protected. National Geographic joins these experts on a 250-mile adventure through remote and unexplored territory, battling nature's most brutal elements and witnessing its breathtaking best. The scientists form a wilderness detective squad, collecting clues that will decipher the secret life of the forest's elusive inhabitants and perhaps even reveal a glimpse of the rare white spirit bear in Great Bear Rainforest.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, not what I was expecting 26 Nov 2013

The film starts with 5 minutes of really off-putting, cheesy adverts an when I actually got to the documentary, the quality of the footage was really cheap and out of focus. Too make things worse, the script was rushed and didn't make any sense. I thought it would be one of those amazing David Atenborough documentaries with sharp, brilliant footage. Don't be fooled y the typical National Geographic photo on the cover, whats really inside is a pile of rubbish. I am very disappointed as I wasted my birthday gift voucher it.

What a great DVD, very informative and very well filmed with many underwater shots of the salmon. Great footage of bears and wolfs with a fantastic ending of the white bear to finish with...a must for all nature followers and very fairly priced. My only downer was this DVD was not long enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful wildlife 26 Dec 2012

A well presented and informative dvd covering many wildlife species along the British Columbia coast.
I was surprised that the dvd appeared to cover wolves more than bears, but there is enough on bears to keep bear lovers happy.
The shots of the ghost bear are worth the price alone, and the interplay between other bears is enjoyable. The length of the dvd feels about right, it covers each subject for long enough without repeating itself or getting tedious.

Perfect for wildlife lovers, and in particular bear and wolf fans.
