Book Description

An updated edition of the comprehensive, sensitively written guide to the practical and emotional aspects of breastfeeding from Britain's leading postnatal advice group.

Product Description

There is no doubt that breast is best and it is the most natural way of feeding your baby. The majority of mothers approach breastfeeding with an optimism and a desire to succeed but in many cases this soon disintegrates into failing milk supplies and sore nipples. No one ever tells you how difficult and painful it can be. is the usual cry from a new mother. Now you can have help permanently on hand in your own home. Fully updated and packed with practical advice on every aspect of breastfeeding - from positioning your baby correctly and latching-on to timing and successful weaning -THEN NATIONAL CHILDBIRTH TRUST BOOK OF BREASTFEEDING offers solutions to the kind of day-day problems and emotional concerns that affect breastfeeding women every day. Written by a counsellor with fifteen year experience and published in association with Britain's largest chidbirth charity, this book will give you the confidence to make your baby's first months happy and trouble-free for both of you.

I found this an absolutely brilliant book and successfully fed both my children for nine months with the help of the book's common sense advice and plenty of help from every midwife, health visitor, friend or family member I could get help from. I think the book mainly gave me an insight into the values of breastfeeding, the determination to keep at it which can be a real challenge especially if you yourself get ill and the courage to ask for help for the sake of me and my baby. Of course not everyone has such a positive experience of breastfeeding and that said I would still tell anyone the most important thing for your baby is to take care of yourself and if that means not breastfeeding either full time or part time then that is your choice. Stopping breastfeeding is also covered extremely well in the book because the emotions involved are discussed as well as how to stop.

Useful book, wish I'd bought it before birth so I was more prepared. I do, however, feel it is so pro-breastfeeding that it may put some off. It doesn't advocate supplementing with the occasional formula feed but I have found this tactic invaluable for my sanity! Overall, it provides useful information but I wouldn't take it as the holy grail of baby feeding.

This is a must for all mums and dads who are determined to succseed at breast feeding. It offers practical advice and support to parents. Invaluable as a text for convincing any doubting Toms that this is not an easy process, but best for everyone in the nurturing of your child.

I would have given up in the first week had I not had the knowledge that this book offered me - very easy to dip in and out of and very useful even when I had managed to successefully establish breast feeding.

I made everyone read it including my dad - everyone understood my needs and were content with the idea that changing nappies is as valuable as breast feeding.

Invaluable source of expert knowledge for any health professional involved in helath care and/or health promotion of mothers and babies
