Product Description

Established in 1964, the National Catholic Reporter (NCR) stands as one of the few, if not the only truly independent, journalistic outlet for Catholics and others who struggle with the complex moral and societal issues of the day. NCR is a religious news source with worldly interests; the biweekly newspaper reports and comments on the church in the modern world and also covers the religious, political and social forces shaping public policies and institutions. Having developed in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, NCR maintains a lay-managed, independent spirit dedicated to telling the stories of injustice that others simply will not print. In addition to news, analysis and commentary, each issue of NCR includes a special section focusing on a core topic affecting the church: Ecology, Family Life, Peace and Justice, Women and more.

For the last eleven consecutive years, the Catholic Press Association has awarded the National Catholic Reporter with its highest award for journalism.

The Kindle Edition of NCR contains all articles found in the print edition. For your convenience, issues are automatically delivered wirelessly to your Kindle every two weeks.

Kindle Newspapers are fully downloaded onto your Kindle so you can read them even when you're not wirelessly connected. This newspaper does not necessarily reflect the full print content of the publication.

DANGER! DANGER!

The NATIONAL CATHOLIC REPORTER is a DISSIDENT, MODERNIST AND LIBERAL newspaper that is NOT FAITHFUL to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

CatholicCulture.org has done a good review of the website of the National Catholic Reporter and has listed the website in its "Danger" list: http://www.catholicculture.org/culture/reviews/view.cfm?recnum=60

The "Danger" list is a list of websites which have received the lowest fidelty grade from CatholicCulture.org.

SO AVOID THE NATIONAL CATHOLIC REPORTER LIKE THE PLAGUE!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Protestant Thumbs-up! 8 Jan 2014
By Edward G. Martin - Published on Amazon.com
I am a life-long United Methodist and I have been a reader and subscriber to the National Catholic Reporter since 1977. Being married to a Roman Catholic since 1969, I was familiar with the local Catholic parishes which we attended, but NCR introduced me to the universal church in an open and ecumenical way. Yes, NCR tends toward the progressive and oftentimes criticizes the power structure - in dioceses, the US, worldwide and in the Vatican itself. But I have learned much about Catholicism and Christianity in its pages. NCR has helped in my spiritual formation as well as my understanding of the church. The staff is knowledgeable and the articles are well-written and researched in detail. NCR is cutting edge and appears to leave no stone unturned when reporting on news of the church. I like that non-Catholic and non-Christian contributors can be found in within its pages. I have found much material to share with others over the years. I was pleased that I could subscribe now on my KindleFire and help save some paper - an ecological move of which I'm sure the NCR staff approves. I highly recommend NCR to those within and outside the church for a "non-traditional, non-fundamentalist" Christian perspective on Church and Society and how we are called to minister to the least, the last and the lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars since Vatican Council II the most informative, faithful CAtohlic weekly in America 28 Jan 2014
By C. Scanlon - Published on Amazon.com
I remember reading this newspaper with amazement and joy at my father's table over forty years ago and feeling my family in the Catholic Church. I remember reading then articles by still Catholic Michael Novak daring to question the morality of our nation's military invasions and occupations in the light of Roman Catholic tradition and Pope John XXIII's Pacem in Terris and Mater et Magistra. I recall first meeting gratefully the Brothers Berrigan within these holy pages, and their smiles and warmth and courage and peace and prayers and poems.

This newspaper continues even now its fine tradition of Catholic and courageous journalism, bringing to the forefront the eagerly concealed issues of our nation and Church, out into the light of our Faith and morality.

Important for any thinking and praying and Catholic household to have. Essential to overcome the constant barrage of our corporate and monopolistic media, in order to understand our world and nation and our Church in the light of our Faith and reason.

Please deny yourself this consolation and grace no longer. A worthy and strong and gentle companion upon our lonesome exile within this tormented world of warfare.
