Natalie Dessay provides snippets of performance information before each opera extract. She is a theatrical performer par excellence (as I had the fortune to discover at ROH production of La Fille du Regiment this month). Natalie combines tragic and comedic acting with nerve-tingling coloratura. The DVD contains 13 extracts - with 3 versions of Olympia's aria from Offenbach's Les Contes D'Hoffman. It is interesting to compare the productions and the changes that Natalie makes to support each production style. If you enjoy opera/operetta and coloratura singing at its best, then you should buy this DVD (note the region requirements).

You would never imagine all those high notes coming out of such a tiny body! And yes, she is tiny. I have had the good fortune of meeting and hearing Natalie Dessay singing Ophelia at the Chatalet Opera House and she really packs a punch vocally! This DVD is a great collection of her most memorable stage roles, with her comments before each track. Her rendition of Der Holle Rache, with the dialogue before is absolutely fantastic!

Natalie Dessay - Greatest Moments on Stage [DVD] [2007] What is there to say about this wonderful singer that has not been said before? She is an extremely talented actress with an incredible voice. It doesn't matter what she is singing - every aria is marvellous to watch and hear. I shall enjoy watching this DVD over and over again.
