In this dark and witty fable, Nanny McPhee (a person of an unsettling appearance and magical powers) enters the household of the recently widowed Mr. Brown and attempts to tame his seven exceedingly ill-behaved children. The children, led by the oldest boy Simon, have managed to drive away 17 previous nannies and are certain that they will have no trouble with this one. But as Nanny McPhee takes control, they begin to notice that their vile behavior now leads swiftly and magically to rather startling consequences. Her influence also extends to the family's deeper problems, including Mr. Brown's sudden and seemingly inexplicable attempts to find a new wife; an announcement by the domineering Aunt Adelaide that she intends to take one of the children away; and the sad and secret longings of their scullery maid, Evangeline. As the children's behavior begins to change, Nanny McPhee's arresting face and frame appear to change as well, creating even more questions about this mysterious stranger whom the children and their father have come to love.

Nanny McPhee/Nanny McPhee & The big bang are both really entertaining films for the whole family. They were equally as good but in the second film the animals were brilliant. If your into fantasy with good humour( In my opinion)this box set is a very good buy.

My children had heard so much about Nanny McPhee but hadn't seen the movies yet. When I saw the Box set of both the 1st and 2nd movie, I bought it right away. I haven't regretted it. My kids love Nanny McPhee! It's exciting, funny and also moving. There's a wonderful transformation in the behaviour of the unruly children in the movie mirrored by Nanny McPhee's physical transformation. Grab the popcorn, the kids and settle down for a lovely fun family movie!

I prefer the first Nanny McPhee which has the aura of a magical fairytale about it. Brilliantly written, and first class acting by all the cast, including the children. I suppose it is mainly for children, but I am an adult, and I love it.

I was not so impressed with the second film. For me it somehow lost that aura of mystery and magic, and was almost too modern and loud. Perhaps not quite so much for adult consumpton!

Grandchildren haven't yet viewed the DVDs - I am saving them until they are all here - but, having seen the first film, I am sure they will be absolutely bowled over by it's anarchical, hilarious humour.

Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang is a modern classic. Warmly recommended: funny and charming, it feels like a familiar slice of all the best English children's story, wrapped up in an original way.
