As father of seven of the naughtiest children in the world, Mr. Brown has lost control. Seventeen nannies have been driven away and he has lost all hope of ever finding another. But then, one day, a mysterious and magical figure turns up at the door. Her name is Nanny McPhee. With her bizarre looks and special powers, it seems that the Brown children may finally have found their match.
The screenplay for Nanny McPhee was written by Emma Thompson and is an adaptation of the "Nurse Matilda" books, written in the early 1960s by Christianna Brand. The story is set in the late Victorian/early Edwardian England in a small village on the edge of London.
Emma Thompson, the only person to have won Academy Awards for both acting and writing, also plays the title role, opposite Colin Firth, Kelly McDonald and Angela Lansbury. Kelly McDonald, who recently starred as Peter Pan in Finding Neverland, joins the cast as Evangeline, the kindly scullery maid, while Angela Lansbury, winner of six Golden Globe Awards and four Tony Awards, makes a welcome return to the big screen after an absence of two decades. The impressive cast also includes Celia Imrie, and BAFTA winner, Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake).
The wondrous and fantastical score is by composer Patrick Doyle, one of the finest of all contemporary film composers and is performed by the world-famous London Symphony Orchestra. Patrick Doyles fame began with his monumental score for Kenneth Branaughs acclaimed production of Henry V. Doyles exceptional music has been heard in such films as Sense and Sensibility, Hamlet, A Little Princess, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

Another Doyle masterpiece,
By
This review is from: Nanny McPhee (OST) (Audio CD)
Okay, I'll admit, I'm a Doyle completist, so I'm a bit biased, but I think this is one his best works yet. It's filled with heartbreakingly lovely themes and gorgeous orchestrations brimming over with longing, as well as some delightfully wacky pieces for what are, no doubt, broadly comedic scenes. The final seven minute cue is without doubt the best piece of film score I've heard this year. It's fantastic to hear a score in which the director has given the composer large enough swathes of the film to really create a coherent musical tapestry, instead of many little two minute cues. Highly recommended, you won't regret buying this one. I can't wait to see the film when it opens in the States in January.

Great,
By R. Perez "Wind" - Published on Amazon.com

On the contrary to what the first reviewer says, I think this soundtrack is actually excellent. Patrick Doyle is not new in the buisness, and his music is always great. The firsts tracks of this soundtracks should remain you to the Casper soundtrack. After that, there's almost every single emotion in the CD. It goes from the funny/ridiculous track, to the more misterious one, and finally to the 'cheesy' yet greater at the end. That's what makes this CD totally worth your money. Although the movie itself is not very popular, if you're a soundtrack collector, I'd say this is a must have.

Ho Hum,

I expected more. There are a few songs that are worth listening to, but the rest just all sound the same. I was disappointed.
