I purchased this monitor after having previously purchased the
Tommee Tippee Suresound Ultimate Monitor. This monitor is a massive improvement on the Tommee Tippee monitor for the following reasons:

1. It has a much larger area, so is less prone to false alarms - the Tommee Tippee monitor went off 6 times one night and at least 2 times a night on other nights - I replaced the Tippee in case the unit was faulty, and had the same issue with the Tippee.

2. The alarm on this unit is much louder and useful when the baby is sleeping upstairs during the day.

3. It gives a warning clicking noise before sounding the alarm in case you take baby out of the cot and forget to switch the unit off - when this happens it is reassuring to know the unit is working.

4. The unit is much more sensitive than the Tippee and I have been told by the supplier (it was a different supplier on the Amazon website previously) when I called them, that the Nanny mat is actually used in hospitals hence its greater sensitivity. The mat has also received a Gold Award previously from one of the baby awards programmes.

5. An additional mat for the unit can be purchased for approximately £25 and then the control until can be quickly disconnected and reconnected to the other pad (takes just seconds to do) - we do this to move the control unit from the upstairs cot to the downstairs crib during the day.

Other things you should know about this:

1. The unit is purely a movement sensor, which picks up the baby's breathing, but it doesn't come with a sound monitor to tell you when baby is crying - the Tippee does, but the Tippee's sound monitor is very poor - we instead have purchased a separate digital sound & video monitor known as "Safety 1st" to combine with the nanny mat, and the combination works well but you can use any audio monitor, but just remember that you need to add that as a separate cost in your budget.

2. For any movement sensors it is important that the mat is sitting squarely on a firm base. We went to our local DIY superstore (Homebase) with the measurements of the bottom of our cot which had slats on its base rather than a full rectangular base, and asked them to cut a piece of MDF board to size - it only cost us about £3 for the wood (including the custom cutting in the store). We put the MDF on the existing cot base, with the mat on top and then the mattress on top of that - it works much better that way.

This mat has provided us with such peace of mind, it is definitely worth buying.

I am a new father and I was not expecting to worry about so many things. Every night after the baby came home the main worry was the sleeping baby. Countless nights I would just wake up just to look and feel the baby breathing. Lets just say I didn't get a lot of sleep. My misses was the same, we needed a solution and fast. I did a bit of research and came with a few candidates to monitor the baby. I was not interested in a video monitor since if you are sleeping there is not much to see in the dark or notice with your eyes closed :-) What we needed was something that would monitor her breathing or movement while she slept. Of the 3 main options that perform this function in an affordable price only 2 have EU medical device certificates. After doing a lot more research and evaluation, the Nanny came on top because of presentation and overall functionality. Is simple, efficient and covers a wide range of the bed where the baby is sleeping. It consist of a board that goes under the mattress which then detects feather-like movements of the baby and starts an alarm if it can't sense anything for a short period of time. Now we sleep in peace knowing that if my daughter has any sort of emergency or something unexpected happens we will be made aware with the alarm. If you are curious, the alarm is akin to a fire alarm in terms of noise, it will wake up anyone I know. Highly recommended!!

The Nanny respiration monitor is absolutely wonderful and though my husband at first thought it was overkill he now fully agrees. We already had a Philips Avent digital audio monitor but I really wanted this for the peace of mind. Our son was born too small so it was a fantastic reassurance to have this alarm. The mat goes under the mattress and is one of the largest available so false alarms are not an issue. The monitor itself is attached to the side of the crib or cot and when on blinks green with every breath the baby takes, which by the way is very accurate. When you take the baby out without switching the alarm off you get to hear what you would also hear in case of a respiratory stop or a respiration frequency below 8/min: first a few clicks so you remember to put it off in case you forgot and therefter a very loud alarm. This alarm will be audible in your whole house, unless maybe your house is a mansion, otherwise it's loud enough believe me. There is no separate parent unit but with the loudness of the alarm you don't need this. Otherwise your regular baby monitor will pick it up. As the title of my review says, I like this alarm better than our audio alarm because the most important thing we want to know is if our baby is OK and when he cries we always hear that anyway since we don't live in the previous mentioned mansion. The possibility for accurate respiration monitoring is here now and if you can afford it get it. Here is a list of pros and cons:

Pros:
1) Peace of mind!

2) Alarm is loud enough for virtually any house except the Neverland Mansion.

3) Breathing is monitored very accurately.

4) No false alarms: we had none whatsoever untill now and have been using it for 4 months.

5) Even though the box says you shouldn't move the mat around we have replaced it a few times from crib to cot and no problems whatsoever.

6) Batteries still last after 4 months use.

7) If you forget to switch the alarm off when you take baby up you first get a few warning clicks before the alarm goes off.

8) Excellent value for the money spent.

9) Easy to use and install.

Cons:
1) Ofcourse: no audio monitoring. We had a separate audio monitor and I would still recommend this, although if forced to throw one out I would keep the Nanny.

So: if you can afford it, I absolutely recommend you get this. It's very easy to install and use and works very accurately.
