This is the first of the original Nancy Drew mysteries. Nancy, the daughter of famous lawyer Carson Drew, is upset at the news that the awful Topham family will be inheriting a fortune from Josiah Crowley a man they took in just to get hold of his money! When she realises that there might be another will hidden somewhere, Nancy decides to investigate and make sure that justice is done. In the process she puts herself in great danger, becomes involved in a pursuit in her blue roadster and encounters dangerous burglars!
It's been years since I read a Nancy Drew book and so I was slightly worried that `The Secret of the Old Clock' wouldn't be as good as I remembered it. Certainly it does feel dated and not quite as PC as the books written nowadays. Having said that though, I still think that Nancy is as good a role model as ever: patience, hard-work, kindness, consideration, self-sufficiency, honesty and resourcefulness are all rewarded and what could be better than that!
(Apologies for all the exclamation marks, I tend to get excited when I'm reading Nancy Drew!)
