Book Description

1 Dec 2005
World-renowned quilter Nancy Crow's work is presented for a general audience for the first time in this volume. Divided into nine major quilt series, the book shows not only the diversity and dynamism of Crow's work, but also many of the artifacts and places that inspired her. With excerpts from her journals and sketch books combined with side panels that track important events in her life, this book also gives insight into how Crow's thinking and art evolved after major events in her life. Many of the featured quilts have never before been photographed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Nancy Crow Book ever 26 Nov 2007
By Penny
Format:Hardcover
This is a brilliant book. I've been a Nancy Crow fan for ages, and was even more impressed after reading this book. There's very clear colour photography in the book, with some fold-out pages of her quilts. It goes through how Nancy works e.g. details of her sketchbooks, quilting diagrams, studio space etc. It's laid out like an art book in places e.g. shows how Nancy works through different series e.g. Constructions, colour blocks etc. This is not a quilting-how-to book, but instead is something that people can aspire to or leave out on their coffee table for people to "ooh and aah" over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quilt Art at its best! 18 Oct 2007
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
A truly fantastic book. It spans just over two decades of work by the incredible and prolific quilter, Nancy Crow, whose work constantly evolves into something even better than before. A fabulous eye for colour combinations that are inspiredby from a huge range of interests. The details and cross-referencing are quite astounding and better than most science books i have read, if a little scary (do I really need to know which direction the floor boards run in her newly restored barn? Yes I do as detail like that is now a conversation point. I have mentioned it on numerous occasions). The book answers all the questions I could possibly have about her work. She is a rare artist and actually gives due credit to all those involved in promoting her own inspired version of quilt art.

I look forward to her next book, as I have NO doubt that the will produce one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coffee Table Heaven 17 Jan 2013
Format:Hardcover
This is a seriously large and weighty tome, that is a pleasure to both read and look at. Production wise, it is lavish, with beautiful photography, design, and gatefold pages which means the quilts can be shown at a much larger scale than a conventional book would normally allow. Sketchbook pages are shown alongside the final quilts, while Nancy's sketchbook notes are printed in a running commentary at the foot of the page, all of which gives a helpful overview of the artist's vision, from initial concept to final completion. Personal statements from the artist, about particular quilts-or groups of quilts-explain significant milestones in her work, and interest in certain themes. As well as the work itself, the book focuses on Nancy's travels and working environment, and ends with an interview with Nancy. All in all, I'd say this is a must have book, for an aspiring or dedicated quilt maker to own, but one which would also provide enormous inspiration for a novice.
