Book Description

2 April 2009

Courtney's boyfriend has just gone down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. She couldn't be happier. And with her super-organised sister, Norah, to help her plan the wedding, what could possibly go wrong? Nothing, until Courtney decides their other sister, Raine, should be invited. No one has seen or heard from Raine for six years - since she ruined Norah's own wedding and ran off with the love of Courtney's life. Convinced they should all be able to move on after so much time, Courtney gets the sisters back together again only to find that family ghosts aren't easily vanquished - and neither are first loves. Reuniting her family is going to make Courtney reconsider every decision she's made for the last six years - right down to the man she's about to marry. It's going to be one long summer…

Review

Crane's brisk voice and knack for finding the humour in Courtney's angst keep the mood upbeat all the way to the rosy resolution' Publishers Weekly.

Funny, charming, and ultimately touching… Using humor, warmth, and a great eye for the intricacies of life, Crane draws you into this story of being lost in the midst of family confusions, then finding oneself' Heather Swain, author of Luscious Lemon.

Crane's newest book is just plain fun… a funny, smart rendering of the exquisite tenderness that sets in once the engagement is announced… For all of us looking back and for the legions of young women who've not yet had the pleasure of full-throttle wedding jitters' Sheila Curran, author of Diana Lively Is Falling Down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chick lit but a bit different 20 July 2012

Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Courtney is the youngest of three sisters. Her dad left her mother when she was expecting Courtney and then died of a heart attack just before she was born. This left a very disfunctional family, with the mum grieving and leaving a lot to the oldest sister and the middle sister eventually leaving home six years before the story starts, having effectively ruined the oldest sister's wedding. Courtney gets engaged to her boyfriend and wants to invite her absent sister to her engagement party and wedding. Add an old boyfriend into the mix, who is now with the absent sister, and you have the makings of some very strained and awkward situations and relationships. The story is well told though and kept me wanting to keep reading till I got to the end. I read the Kindle version and am pleased to say the layout was good and there were only two or three typos in the whole book.

I really enjoyed this book, and I was so rooting for the main character - it was well written without being smaltzy and just a lovely, entertaining book.
