Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Unreal Tournament has lined itself up to set its first-person-shooter note in the PlayStation 2's opening chord. The game, a PC frag-fest from the previous year, features four familiar game types: Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination and Assault. Fans of the PC original will have the same large assortment of deadly weapons at their disposal for a frag-filled experience. After all, it isn't the first 15-rated game on the PlayStation 2 for nothing.

Not only is there two, three and four-player split-screen action on the same TV, but up to eight PlayStation 2 systems can link together via the PS2's built-in FireWire port. In total, there will be between 40 and 50 maps spread across all single-player and multiplayer game modes. Some maps are identical to the game's PC predecessor, while others have been specifically designed for the new 128-bit system.

The bot artificial intelligence is also impressive, especially in the simulated Capture the Flag mode. Players can also effortlessly assign orders to virtual team mates, such as "Attack", "Defend", "Hold Position", and "Cover".

There are a couple of issues such as the frame rate being noticeably slower than its computer brethren in parts, especially in split-screen mode. Thankfully for those of us weaned on Unreal and Unreal Tournament on the PC, a standard keyboard and mouse can be connected to the PS2's USB port. --Todd Mowatt

Unreal Tournament 26 Jan 2002
Simply the greatest fighting game made on the PS2, a brilliant conversion from the PC. Great modes and intelligant team mates and foes, a must buy, and cheap!

Ultimate Carnage! 25 Feb 2004
A superb blast; that would be a quick way to describe Unreal Touranment, (U.T.). Set in the 24th century, in order to deal with the cost of keeping prisoners alive, the Larandi Corporation arrives at the idea of gladitorial sport, birthing the Touranment.
Choosing from a wide range of criminals, you get to fight it over amazing landscapes in several, very entertaining modes;
DEATHMATCH: Simple killing spree, the only objective is to be the winner.
DOMINATION: A strategic team deathmatch, each team is awarded points for holding certain locations within the time limit.
CAPTURE THE FLAG: Well known in multi-player modes, C.T.F. requires you to steal the enemies flag, leg it back to your base, while at the same time preventing the enemy from doing the same thing.
ASSULT: In this, one team is the attackers, the other defenders.
The attackers are given an objective to accomplise; ususally destroy a certain object, or hold onto an area for a length of time. After which, the team switches around; attackers become the defenders, and vise versa.
CHAMPIONSHIP: One-on-one deathmatch against the four reigning champions of the U.T. league.
The weapons you get your hands on range from Enforcer Pistols, Sniper Rifles, and Pulse Guns to Nuclear Rocket Launchers; called Redeemers!
The gameplay is brilliant, the graphics very good, basically a very enjoyable game, one of the best brainless shooters. Buy, blast, enjoy!

Excellent 24 May 2001
For me, UT with its reasonable single player campaign and excellent multiplayer scenarios was far more deserving of my money than Quake III. Frame rate isn't the holy grail! Multiplayer Assault scenarios (especially the WWII "Overlord" level) are the best gaming I've had in a while. But then, I really enjoyed the original Unreal, and I can't wait for Unreal 2...

Still Unreal
It's getting on a bit. The graphics aren't as good as they are these days. The disk is noisy. The aim function seems aided for the ps2, you can shoot at them in their vague general... Read more

Another 'blue'disc,another disappointment.
The mark I've given this is not for the game in itself, more the less than impressive 'conversion' on PS2,The first thing to notice is that it's on one of the PS2's horrid 'blue'... Read more

Unreal Tournament - compared to other PS2 first-person games
Plenty of people have moaned about the framerates on this game, but that's because they've played it on a PC that is overpowered and glossy 'eye-candy' is to be expected. Read more

Terrible framerate
Terrible framerate, no bots in multiplayer, and no online play make this a poor conversion of what was a top PC game.
