Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Now's your chance to take the red pill for real and Enter The Matrix--not simply a video game adaptation of the films but a whole new chapter in the Matrix saga. Indeed, the best thing about Enter The Matrix is the way it seamlessly connects with the three films, for although it's based on none of them directly, it allows you to play the role of either Niobe or Ghost (minor characters from The Matrix Reloaded) while running into the likes of Neo, Morpheus and Agent Smith as the game's story unfolds. Not only that but the story, as well as all the exclusive video footage, is written and directed by the films' creators, the Wachowski brothers.

The game itself is, somewhat predictably, a third-person shoot-'em-up not at all dissimilar to a more balletic version of Max Payne. It's somewhat surprising though, for such a high-profile game, to find the graphics are actually a little below par and the controls somewhat clunky, but generally it all looks and plays pretty well with all the classic Matrix-style slow-motion acrobatics relatively easy to pull off.

Easily the best bits of the game are the on-foot chase sequences, usually involving agents, which are actually rather tense and a great way to show off all the running and leaping powers you've mastered in the rest of the game. The worst bits are the car chases, especially if you play as Niobe and have to put up with the terrible car handling, instead of just hanging out the window and shooting as Ghost. Still, this is a decent game overall which, although unlikely to win any awards in itself, is sure to please most Matrix fans. --David Jenkins

4.0 out of 5 stars Nowhere near perfect but still great fun, 2 Jun 2003
This review is from: Enter the Matrix (Xbox) (Video Game)
This is certainly a game which seems to have divided opinions down the middle; half of the people who’ve played it say it’s the best thing since sliced bread, whilst the other half say that it’s a rush-released mess. Personally, I tend towards the first group, though the game is not without it’s criticisms. Firstly, some of the animation is less than impressive. The action of Ghost running at full speed or climbing a ladder simply looks stupid. There are some problems with clipping and enemies disappearing behind walls and the like. And the difficulty level is pretty low, with a few hard sections seemingly tacked on to ensure the gamer does not complete the game first time. However, for me, these problems are all overshadowed by the diabolical driving sections. Mercifully, they’re pretty scarce, but if you’ve played a decent Xbox racer liker Project Gotham or SGT2002, you won’t believe your eyes. Driving games on the PSX wipe the floor with this. The graphics are poor, the handling terrible and the enemy AI is simply non-existent. Not good enough, Atari.
The good parts to this game really are good, though. The hand to hand fighting and shootouts incorporating the use of bullet time are both huge fun and deeply satisfying. The plot, with extra scenes filmed especially for the game, weaves in and out of that of The Matrix Reloaded film, and fills in some of the background missing from it (an intention of the Wachowski brothers) and as such is both convoluted and interesting.
In conclusion, then, I would most certainly recommend this game to those hardcore, obsessive fans of the Matrix series who unfortunately exist, and seem to believe everything in the film is fact. I’d also recommend it to normal people who enjoy the films for what they are, and also like games where you have a heap of weapons to play with, and legions of enemies to shoot and beat up. Just don’t expect perfection, as it was rush released to coincide with the release of the new Matrix film, and is therefore ever-so-slightly rough around the edges. On its own terms, though, it is an entertaining release, and justifies a large amount of the hype which preceeded it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good game but can be shortlived, 5 July 2005
This review is from: Enter the Matrix (Xbox) (Video Game)
This game should be bought for the kung fu in it , its great fun and cool. When it first came out it was safer to rent it cause the fun might wear off , but nowadays with the cheap price i would say you should just buy it.

By the way amazon there is a secret 2 player mode in it where 2 people can verse each other using all the kung fu moves but its pretty hard and annoying to unlock , if you get it check out the internet for help to unlock it

3.0 out of 5 stars Enter the Average, 13 Feb 2005

Some great sections of extra footage shot from the also decidedly Average Revolutions and Reloaded where probably a saving grace, the game overall isn't too unplayable and the combat system works some of the time, however it all feels like the technology is 3 years old, having played Shiny's back catalogue I know they can do so much better, fans of The Matrix series will probably lap this up, but the graphics are just on par with early PS2 games, as previously stated the controls are a mixed bag sometimes you can pull a gun off someone sometimes you are left fighting clumsy, Bullet time is fun for about 10 minutes, no feel of cohesion, the game also seems to have a number of serious bugs which I cannot belive made it through testing such as sound glitches and falling out of the level, in general a typical Film tie in which doesn't satisfy. A missed opportunity by one of my favourite developers.
