Product Description

Tales of Xillia follows Jude Mathis, a clever medical student attending school in the capital city, and Milla Maxwell, a mysterious woman accompanied by four unseen beings. Players will be able to choose either Jude or Milla at the outset of their adventure through the world of Rieze Maxia, where humans and spirits live together in harmony. The kingdom of Rashugal has been experimenting with a powerful source that led to draining the mana from the world. Realizing the harm it is inflicting on the world, Jude and Milla set off on a journey to destroy it and restore the mana back to the world.

A new way of graphic expression — Achieved by the development team’s technique and knowledge accumulated over 15 years, the world and characters are portrayed in their natural, life-size state so that players can feel the characters and objects in the game as if they really exist there.

Dual Raid Linear Motion Battle System - The latest version of the most dynamic battle system seen in JRPG gaming that allows players to have an advantage in the battle by using Linked Combat System to link two characters to team up in terms of attack, defence and support. Players can enjoy more tactical battles by changing the party members with backup members even during the battle.

Deep and rich storyline described differently from two main characters’ point of view – Pick from two main characters and unfold the storyline from each point of view and experience exclusive events that only appear when playing in Jude route or Milla route.

Huge game content – In addition to the main storyline, explore the beautiful world of Rieze Maxia and take part in mini-quests, sub-plots to find unexpected aspects of the characters and many other features found throughout the world.

First collaboration between the two prominent character designers – Beautiful anime-style character designs from Mutsumi Inomata and Kosuke Fujishima who have designed lots of characters for previous games in the Tales of series.

Hyper linked combos – While characters are linked, their cooperative gauge called “Linked Artes Gauge” will fill up. Once the gauge is filled to some extent,,characters can perform special attacks called “Linked Artes” that change variously depending on the arte the controlled character uses. Once the gauge is full, the player can perform Linked Artes combos until the gauge becomes zero.

Tales of Xillia is simply a must buy for any Tales Fan, end of story. The rest of this review is for people new to the Tales series

Now ive gotten that out of the way the game itself. For JRPG fans this is about as good as it gets, the Tales series is right now in the sweet spot that Final Fantasy was back in the heady days of VI and VII; Pure unadulterated JRPG goodness.

Unlike most of its competitors the Tales series has never opted for boring menu driven combat, instead your thrown into a 3D beat-em-up style affair every time you cross paths with a monster. It starts out simple and tbh if you have the game on easy or normal or maybe even moderate you wont need to plumb the depths of the decepively simple seeming combat system....just dive in and enjoy it on the surface if you like, but those who play on Hard will find themselves needing to master Snap Pivots, Spirit Shifts and all manner of fun mechanics to win their battles. Essentially whatever your skill level you can find a happy place in the battle system

Again, Xillia eschews the simple 'level up and x stats go up/you recieve x ability' for something with more depth. In this case its called a Lilium Orb and its similar to the sphere grid of FF X. When you level you gain points that can be used to activate nodes on the Orb which increase stats, parameters and buy artes and skills (artes are combat moves, Skills are tweaks to your characters ability).

5.0 out of 5 stars An immense epic, and it's not over yet! 4 Sept. 2013

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The first of two currently released in Japan "Tales of Xillia" games. Tales of Xillia 2 is due to be released in 2014.

Story: The main theme of Tales of Xillia is the environment, and how spirits and humans can co-exist. As you'd expect though, there are many different layers to the story, making it more complex and interesting. This is true of most Tales games- and even more so in Xillia, where you can play through as one of two main characters.

Jude: Jude is a medical student in Fennemont who happens across a strange woman one evening while searching for his Professor. He is stunned to find out who she really is, and from this day onwards his life is changed forever.

Milla: Milla is on a mission to find out the cause of a disturbance amongst the lesser spirits. Tracing the disturbance to Fennemont, she meets a teenager called Jude- and learns a disturbing truth. Determined to carry out her mission, Milla's journey begins.

Apart from Milla and Jude, there are 4 other playable characters. There are also many memorable minor characters, including friends and foe alike. The characters are fully voiced, and all have an interesting background that is explored in the game. Sometimes JRPGs fail to explore character history. In this game that is not the case. Great lengths have been gone to in order to give each of the 6 party members, and even the minor characters, a back story. This makes them all more real and likeable- for the most part.

Level Gaining:
Rather than getting artes and improving stats automatically, Xillia follows a FFX style levelling up system. Each character has a grid that looks like a spider's web. On the web are many nodes with different things on. Stat increasing nodes are along the web strands.

Here's a funny story:

I was looking for this game in every retail shop I could before looking online. Why? Because I had vouchers I could use in shops. After looking around I found Amazons prices to be at a good price (cheapest I found). I bought a used version from one of the sellers and began waiting patiently for the game.

The game arrived one day earlier and was really happy that it finally arrived.

But when I opened it I was extremely suprised: They sent me a Day One Edition of this game; BRAND NEW!

Best Deal EVER!

Anyway the game is brilliant. The comabt is easy to use and very fun, you can pick your starting character and even swap with other character whenever you want. The story is very good with a few twists here and their and the game comes with a deep customisation system to let yo decide on weapons, appearance, moves, etc.

Just to point out, this is my first tales game so I was really hoping for something good at this stage of the franchises cycle

Overall, a must have game for anyone

4.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Playstation 3 games. 25 May 2015

Tales of Xillia...well there is quite a lot I can say about this game. I lost interest in the Tales of series after not being able to make myself complete Tales of Vesperia or get into Tales of Graces F. Tales of Xillia however got me back right into the series after watching and hearing the intro song called 'Progress' by Ayumi Hamasaki, I love that song. The game has been the only Tales of game that I have completed and I wanna say that I really liked it. I didn't love the game or think it's great but it's definitely a good game. An 8.2/10 I'd say. The story and characters are good but sometimes it gets a bit over complicated and rather cheesey. It has good game play with a good fast paced battle system but targeting enemies was such a pain sometimes, the leveling up system was very nice and simple though.

The music was good, with some nice tracks like Leronde City. But I didn't like the tracks that were playing when you go to the other country during chapter 4. It sounded like jazz music? Graphics were quite decent and there is plenty to do in the game.

I can't say for sure yet but I think Tales of Xillia could be my favorite Tales of game but I'm still yet to play the others so we shall see. The game sometimes just gave me that 'feels' feeling, however I didn't think there were any real epic moments in the game except for a bit at the final part. A good RPG though. Definitely one of the best on the Playstation 3.
