Product Description

The Armored Core series is renowned in the mech action genre for its intense one-on-one battles and customization options. Armored Core 5 is a new entry that revolutionizes the series with more content than the previous games, a completely new atmosphere, and a robust offline mode. In addition, the online mode has been newly designed to focus on huge team-based battles on a global scale. Featuring mechs or "Armored Cores" that are smaller in scale than in previous games, Armored Core 5 centers more on tactics and effectively utilizing the geography of a level rather than just relying on attacks.

  • Defend and conquer territories: Prepare for enemy invasion! Online players can invade your Territory even when you're not online. Set Your Defense System strategically to fight automatically against other players and protect your dependency. When you're online, fight in PvP online team battles to defend against enemies invading your territories.
  • Most complete Multiplayer Mode: The game supports cooperative mode on all missions such as “Destroying a Target" or "Investigation". Team gameplay is encouraged (5 simultaneously with up to 20 in a team). In World Mode, confront each other for world domination.
  • Offensive gameplay: Gameplay has been totally revamped to offer a more powerful offensive attacking experience.
  • Ultimate customisation: The game offers countless parts to collect for an incredible level of mech customization. Customize your Territory for Upper Rank Missions with Defence System variations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible game, but very challenging! 4 April 2012
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Having never played an Armored core game previously i wasnt really sure what to expect and gambled £30+ of my hard earned cash on it.
After a reasonable intro etc and many menus ( somewhat overwhwelming ) I finally settled into the game, This is definately not a "charge and blast game", logic and planning are definately the order of the day. Run and gun means death and a swift death at that, you will probably die many times before discovering the best way to overcome/ flank the enemies and find yourself replaying some of the training levels to earn cash to upgrade the many hundreds ( possible thousands ) of guns/arms/legs to improve your A.C ( Mech ) . When in a real battle the action is fast and hard , you need to be on your toes at all times, at some point into one of the levels i thought i had neared the end, turned a corner in quite a relaxed manner and paid dearly for it ! needless to say i have to play that section again.

I Havent tried the online play yet as my mech is way too wimpy to engage in onine combat at the moment, online play means you must create / join a team and the risks for trying to take another teams area are high , you dont just lose the game, you lose valuable team points etc ( which i presume means your earned cash etc as well, not sure so if i am wrong feel free to correct me ). I would imagine this game could take you into months and months to complete it , especially if your a platinum trophy hunter etc. ( unless of course yourve played previous installments and play for 8 hours a day )

The possibilities of customizing your mech are scary ! virtually limitless colours/designs etc can be used, it will probably take weeks if not months to get your A.C looking just the way you like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 1 May 2012

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a game for mech fans, the construction of mechs and the balance between the three damage types is simple enough for other gamers to have a go with and understand but hard to master. Story is quite unforgiving, oddly written and has a difficulty curve more confusing than a mario kart rainbow race track. The multiplayer feels quite cool but it is quite hard to get into a ranking or conquest match, you require a large amount of points in your team to even attempt it so it is slow paced. The order matches are cool but can be very easy and follow about 7 or so simple mission formats.

I enjoy this game because of the time spent to construct a mech and the satisfaction of seeing it dominate numerous battlefields and the enjoyment of fighting another mech that plays perfectly my mechs weaknesses. This is not a pick up and play like CoD.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I'll be honest. When i first purchased AC5 and fired it up on my PS3, i was disappointed by the visual look and the seemingly basic game mechanic. So after playing a few easy order missions but getting destroyed on a story mission, i sold it on with no more care for it.

Many months later i asked myself, 'was i a little hasty in not giving the game a chance?'

I purchased it again and spent some decent time with it. I started customising my mech with more thought and application. Deciding what weapons to equip on each arm with shoulder projectiles launchers was just a small part of the decisions to be made. There's the need to have some decent legs to carry any weapons and their payloads. More weapons can mean less mobility and slower evasive actions, while more mobility can mean less defence and firepower. Lock-on targeting systems, boosters for airbourne duration and fast avasive action can be changed. While a selection of Core units are more resistant to certain types of weapon. For example, Kinetic energy weapons being one of three types of projectile weapons a certain core unit maybe more resistant to.

It sounds complex, it is and it isn't. The beauty of AC5 is it's deep customisation and the need to adapt a mech to a given combat situation within a mission. Just when you think you're mech is unstoppable.. a mission will turn the tables on you with a mech or combat situation that can lead to repeated deaths if you don't have a rethink on getting your mech back on superior form. And the customisation even goes as far as personal emblems and paint work colours on all areas of your mech. This makes your mech very individual to the look and ability you really want.

3.0 out of 5 stars Potential not utilised 11 May 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
Personally I think this game is great. The customisation aspect of the game is enouromous, you can make mechs your own. A lot of planning and very strategic play. The storyline is pretty mediocre. Weapons, armour, boosters and whatnot, everything is very technical and the numbers tell you the traits of items (I like the technicality but not everyone will). You have your own hangar and you can build your mechs in so many different ways, and you are able test your mechs whenever you want.
Online you can join a team or create your own ( or not at all and simply do mercenary work). Boss battles, territory wars, brilliant. You can also play all of the story missions with another player (either a teammate or a hired mercenary).
The online multi player potential is massive, however it is severely underutilised by a lacking playerbase, you'd be lucky to find anyone playing - it doesn't help that the servers are not global. You can still do it all, with AI hired mercenaries, but honestly it will never be a fun as playing with others.
