Product Description

A modern Grimm's fairy tale and a comedy with both heart and teeth, Naked Brunch follows the adventures of the last nice girl in a fabled big city, a mysterious werewolf named Jim, a psychiatrist to werewolves, the world's luckiest reporter, and an assortment of villains, media jackals, obsessed lovers and wannabes. Annie Engel is seemingly content to be a legal secretary in a big mega-corporation. She's the kind of girl who "understands" when her boss chews her out for his own errors or the man she put through law school leaves her for another young lawyer. A soft touch for con artists, needy neighbours and her own friends, and a vegetarian who wouldn't hurt a fly, she doesn't even like to hurt people's feelings. So she is understandably horrified when she discovers she's been running loose during full moons ripping out the throats of wealthy men and having bestial sex with another wild werewolf. When Dr. Marco Potenza promises her a chance of a near-normal life through talk, drug and confinement therapy, this appeals to Annie. But the allure of the wild male werewolf is strong, and the city is teeming with human predators who are Annie's natural prey. Can she resist her natural urge to kill? Can two wild werewolves find love while the police, the media, her psychiatrist and maverick hunters are closing in?

The book kicks off when the central character Annie Engel starts transforming into a werewolf ever full moon and starts ripping peoples throats out. She also learns shes not alone when she is introduced to the centre. She even falls in love with another werewolf. But all is not what it seems.

Sparkle Hayter is an excellent writer. In this novel she manages to write a novel about werewolves which is in turns believable, blackly humoured and sweet. All this while managing to expose the really scary creatures who surround us everyday. The bussinessmen and politicians who lie, cheat, steal and even murder to make money.

I highly recommend this book. I also recommend the What's a girl gotta do? and all the Robin Hudsen mysteries by the same author.

In reading “NAKED BRUNCH”, I enjoyed the way the author tied in the stories of the main characters (e.g., Annie Engel, Jim, Dr. Marco, Sam), thus making for a harmonious whole. It's a refreshing morality tale and provides an interesting departure from the usual werewolf fare. Annie Engel, both as a woman and as a werewolf, has a big heart and soul. She is representative of those of us who are sickened by the rich and powerful, who, time and again, place profit and personal gain over the best interests of humanity. Consequently, we feel frustrated by our relative powerlessness as individuals to do anything to stop the amoral robber barons and 'merchants of death' in today's world. At least, when Annie becomes a Wolf, she can sniff out these amoral powerbrokers and hunt them down. She's a righteous Wolf!
