Book Description

15 Jun 1995
When Chris and Ruth Stainforth move to a pleasant coastal village to start a new life with their six year old son, David, it seems like a dream come true. Or so they think.

But they have no way of knowing that the village was once a sacred site for the old religion. And that the old god is not dead - just waiting.

Already its power stirs, changing supernaturally what it touches. It ought to herald the dawn of a new age of miracles. But when the power arouses the sleeping horror-cargo of a ship that sank thirty years ago, the magic is tainted. And Chris, Ruth and David find themselves right in the path of a living-dead nightmare made all too murderously real . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars My 100-word book review 21 Mar 2007
By A. J. Cull VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Nailed by the Heart, Simon Clark's debut novel, is a gripping, visceral story of ancient evil and supernatural powers, which I found occasionally reminiscent of John Carpenter's movie The Fog. I liked the story's location, a half-derelict fort at the very edge of the sea, and encountered plenty of uncomfortable and scary moments as the forces of evil started to close in on the good folks. This is not for the squeamish, as it contains some stomach-churningly gruesome scenes, and the writing does have a few rough edges, as befits a first novel. However, it is definitely worth a look!

3.0 out of 5 stars Starts well then gets average 17 Dec 2003

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is Simon Clarks first novel and also the first work of his I have read. It starts off well with a definite sense of foreboding for the first 100 pages or so then gets distinctly average and cliched towards the climax, becoming nothing more than a run of the mill 'people trapped in house by supernatural beings' story. This is a shame, as there is definite promise in the first few chapters.
I agree with the comments given earlier about 'little Londoner' - this phrase is overused and does grate after a while.
Also in the copy I have, the very first page after opening the cover contains an excerpt from the book which gives away part of the ending - not a good move on the publisher's part.
Having said that, I'll probably pick up other work by Simon Clark in the hope that this being his first book he has improved a little.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking horror adventure 26 Feb 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Nailed By The Heart is a real rollercoaster of a horror story with the coollest baddest zombies you've ever seen. Most of the action takes place in a seafort where a family are under seige in one of the most thrilling stories I've read for some time. Stormin'!
