This is super source book of 500 nail art designs sorted into various catagories like glitter & rhinestones, romantic, animal print, geometric etc.

Whilst this is a SOURCE book of designs its is not a GUIDE book as to how to reproduce them! It seems some reviewers have had confusion over this. It does not profess to be a guide book and therefore does its job.

The photos are clear and vibrant and the range of designs is excellent. The book is of a good, sturdy construction being hardbacked and a woven binding. Essential as it is a book that will see a lot of use and be well thumbed over time.

All in all this is a terrific book for its price. Many proffessional books can be VERY expensive. Its a book I will be coming back to time and again to spark the imagination!

I'm in no way a nail art expert but I love to mess around with creating designs on my own nails so when I was offered a review copy of the Nail Art Sourcebook and saw that it included over 500 designs I thought it would be a great source of ideas for me to try. I have to admit that I was expecting it to include more instructions on how to create these designs for yourself though. There is a brief explanation about various techniques (transfers, stick ons, stencils, striping tape and gemstones) along with information about the different types of polishes, acrylics, nail paints and brushes you can buy but that is a tiny part of the book. Most of these things are summed up within a paragraph or two and are hardly the detailed instructions I was hoping for.

The book does however include images of pver 500 different nail designs that you can try to copy. I hate to say it but the majority of them are WAY beyond my skill level and would be impossible for me to achieve at home. Perhaps in some ways these designs would be more useful for professionals who have a lot of experience and better tools than I do but even though I can only dream of achieving these results I still enjoyed looking through the images and found myself really inspired to have a go at trying different things with my own nails. There are definitely adjustments I could make to a lot of the designs so that they are slightly easier to achieve and if nothing else it has given me ideas on different colour schemes and styles to try.

MY REVIEW
My daughter Rachel, was sent this book from Barry from Presents For Men to review for both Rai29BookReadNReview and her new blog PernicketyAboutNailsandBeauty and she generously allowed me to check it out too!
This Nail Art Sourcebook states that it gives "Over 500 designs for fingertip fashions" which strictly speaking it does that I suppose . . .but . . .it's not what I thought it would be.
From the description, I admit to thinking that this book would be a detailed step by step guide with illustrations. That is not the case, so I was initially disappointed. Then I started flicking through the Sourcebook, and it is a great collection of nail designs. I'd describe the book as a sourcebook of illustrations. The book supplies inspirational designs for you to attempt to re-create, ranging from fairly simplistic looking designs to the more elaborate, elegant, and intricate designs. The book is split up into sections, such as floral designs, graphis designs and jewelled designs etc etc. At the beginning of the book there's a section on the care of your nails. there's details for a conditioning manicure, as well as information of nail paints and nail art tools. In these sections there are some basic instructions for use.
I just think it's a shame that there aren't more step by step instructional's in the book. Will the images always be "in fashion" probably not all of them, like anything in the "fashion related" industry, trends do change. Having said that there is usually always a call for a "retro" fashion so I feel the sourcebook would always be of some use to it's purchaser/reader/user. At the end of the sourcebook there is a section headed "Directory" which is split into two sections UK and US.

Lots of nice designs that would be great for inspiration but absolutely no explanation as to how the designs would be created. Many of the designs featured use nail art stamps (mostly Konad it seems) yet the author never once mentions stamping or how it works.

Would be good for inspiration if you've been doing your own nail art for a while and are aware of the various techniques used but is absolutely useless for beginners.

Save your money and look up some decent nail art blogs instead.
