Fantastic to discover that Mediumrare have picked up a series that I thought would never see completion on DVD. It has been over six years since season four was released to DVD and the wait has been very very long!
Mediumrare intend to release all remaining eight seasons between December 2012 and April 2013, and this achievement is a worldwide first!
These 1997/98 produced episodes originally screened on Channel 4 in the UK during early 1998 in a weekly slot. There are some decent guest stars in this set including Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-O), Giancarlo Esposito (Homicide: Life on the Street) among others. Along with a fine ensemble cast including Jimmy Smits, NYPD Blue is certainly one of the better police dramas of the Nineties, along with Homicide.
Make sure you get your set. It will have been worth the wait!

NYPD Blue Season 5 [DVD]
like nypd blue? have the first four seasons? you would be mad to miss out.

dont have the first four, buy them.

this is a bare bones boxset. no special features, no subtitles, but that's not what its about. nypd blue is the benchmark all cop shows should be. for me, only blue bloods go's near that mark.

this set is taken from the original american source and sounds ever so slighty slower. british tv is speeded up by 4% and therefore sounds faster and voices are a higher pitch.

i have the first 4 seasons from america and its sounds exactly the same, so please dont think its faulty. i was so amazed that these sets were (at last) being released, i bought the first four english sets.

a must for any blue fan. if you are not a fan, become one.

cant wait to have it all (finally).

For me this is the holy grail of television. I love the Killing and The Wire but for me Nypd Blue is it. It has been a long road. Channel four made us wait for up to two years between some seasons of this show. They didn't even bother showing the season seven episode "Who Murders Sleeps" and then of course 20th century fox took over four years to release the first four seasons only to stop at that. When you think of some of the rubbish that does come out on Dvd/Blu Ray it really beggars belief that this brilliant series could be left in limbo'
But now those wonderful people at Mediumrare are bringing to Dvd the remaining eight seasons. Finally Danny Sorensen, Connie MacDowall, John Clark, Eddie Gibson,Thomas Bale and all will see light of day. The extended fifth season which concludes the season four cliffhanger. The shattering sixth season the strange seventh season, the excellent eighth season and the steady successive seasons leading to twelve season farewell. It really doesn't get any better than this

Like everyone else, I thought this would never happen! While I didn't really watch much of NYPD Blue back when it orriginally aired on ABC, I certainly knew what it was... (seriously, who didn't) and remember getting hooked on it through reruns on cable stations like TNT; Not the same, I know.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The release of the remaining 8 seasons of this ground-braking, gut-renching, envelope-pushing classic is long overdue! I can't wait to see Sipowicz in-action again!

I bet by the time Mediumrare has released the remaining 8 seasons, 20th Century Fox will wish they had done it. That's beside the point, though. Let's just show Mediumrare our gratitude by buying them as they come out!

Again, FINALLY!

I am absolutely over the moon about this announcement. I thought that I would never get to see the remaining episodes of this great series. I'll be able to revisit the cast and stories that were so well thought out and produced, including the later seasons that I missed and am looking forward to seeing. I completely understand the other reviewers' excitement over this wonderful series......now what about "Hill Street Blues"?

Firstly, I will start by saying well done indeed to the likes of Medium Rare for releasing the remainder of the seasons of this amazing show, which 20th Century Fox were too lazy or foolish not to release themselves.
This season represents what I think became the peak of this show's time, and it stayed at its peak for a long time. It hits the ground running from the word go.
After the shocking final episode cliffhanger of season 4, this season obviously had a lot to live up to, but right from the first episode, it lived up to it and more. The opening episodes are hugely satisfying and from there on, the season never looks back and delivers some almighty episodes.
My personal favorites are the four story arc near the end of the season, where the detectives deal with a bad cop, brilliantly played by guest star Michael Wiseman. With the second episode in this arc, 'The One That Got Away', it seems it's over, but there is more to come later. Most notably in these episodes is a guest appearance by someone who will play a completely different part later on in a later season, something which I have noticed lately that NYPD Blue did quite a lot, bringing in guest stars to play more than one character, but it works well and obviously gives guest stars great opportunities. The guest star on this occasion is Charlotte Ross. And with her performances as the bad cop's wife in these episodes, it is no wonder they brought her back.
The season finishes on a very romantic and possibly long awaited note, (don't worry, no spoilers!), but it does give it a bright finish, and it sets the viewers and fans up of course for the haunting, tragic and unforgettable events that are to come in season 6.
Enjoy!
