I am an amateur DJ and I used to DJ on just a laptop with Virtual DJ Free and I was wanting an upgrade, so after looking around I decided to buy the Numark iDj3.
From my work as a DJ, I know how to operate decks and Virtual DJ, so I was able to use these right away. The main drawing point for me was the iPod deck, which allows anyone who has any requests to put there music on if I don't have it.
This kit has all the features you could want on a beginner set of decks: EQ, Pitch Bend, Scratch, Loops etc. All the buttons are nice and responsive, the buttons light up so you can see them even in the darkest of conditions, and the build quality feels good for this price, it has certainly allowed me to be a better DJ.
There is only one main problem with the decks for me, and that is the lack of functionality in the iPod dock. You cannot scratch or do anything with it, you just play it (or record onto it). The iDj3 seems to be one of the more expensive basic decks in the category for this fact, so I would invite people thinking of buying this to ask themselves if they really need the iPod dock.
All in all, it is a great piece of kit for beginner DJs, it allows you to mix more easily than CDJs and create a perfect mix every time. I have tested all the functions and they all work brilliantly.
