This handy, compact and modern NScessity Digital Hygrometer and Thermometer is an essential for every home. The hygromter/thermometer has a dual display which shows you both the humidity and temperature level. The memory recall stores minimum and maximum levels for monitoring. BACK STORY
With new twin boys in the house we discovered that our existing old-school-style thermometer (a tube containing liquid glued along a scale) was showing completely the wrong temperature. The ideal temperature for babies, seemingly is around 18 deg Celsius (about 64.4 deg F). It turns out that the thermometer had fallen apart years ago and had simply been glued back together by some idiot (me!), but in the wrong place. So we needed a new one. Or two.
I read a number of favourable reviews for this model and so ordered two: one for the boys' bedroom and the other for the living room.
CONSISTENT
When they arrived they proved to be simple to set up (make sure the battery is seated correctly by removing the protective plastic strip) and then I sat them side-by-side for a few hours to see how consistent they were -- I expected them to display roughly the same temperature.
A few hours later and they were pretty spot on. At best they were displaying exactly the same reading. At worst they were about 0.1 degree out. I could live with that.
ACCURACY
We've not been able to carry out any kind of scientific tests to check its accuracy, but as a rough guide the built-in thermometer on the baby monitor displays roughly the same temperature (give or take a degree or two), but as it's on the other side of the room from this one I'd expect different areas of the room to register different readings.

A small button on the side, which needs little more than pressing your finger very gently on it -- almost swiping your finger across it, displays a blue night-light for about 5 seconds or so.... Read more ›

I bought two as I suspected they would give different readings (as thermometers often due). I was wrong - they both give virtually the same readings although they did need the best part of an hour after "opening the box" to settle down. Definitely recommended and I am buying two more for different rooms in the house.
LATER...these worked well to start with but within 18 months both meters developed a high pitched whine and quickly ran the batteries down. New batteries installed and the same thing happened so I have had to lower my rating for the gadget. A pity because I liked it.

NO you do not need to have children to purchase one of these - i havn`t.
Works really well, showing humidity and temperature. Also very acurate as i have two in one room and both show same readings.
Small and compact so does not take up much room.

The ideal humidity for your home is between 45% and 55%; more humid than that and mould spores get the moister they need to propagate and grow, usually in your corners. Apparently an average four person home produces 20 litres of moisture per day (breathing, showering, cooking, drying clothes, etc), that's a lot of water to get-rid of.
I got one of these meters because I had damp in the bedroom and bought a de-humidifier, but it was too noisy to run in that room and sleep so I wanted to know if it was being effective from the kitchen (it was). I know a bit of ventilation is better than a de-humidifier, but either way this meter will let you know if you're getting it right in your home.
A clear dual temperature and humidity display with Minimum/Maximum memory so you see what your house gets up to while you're away. A really useful bit of kit, neat design, well made and at a reasonable price.

So I got this and was impressed by its small and compact size
Only have it a few days but seems to be a good product and also seems accurate
if moving it from one room to another, you need to leave it in the new room for about 10 minutes for it to correctly gather the temp in the new room
one thing I cud not find in product info was if it measured negative temperatures. e.g -2, -3 etc.
I tested it by putting it in a freezer and it does indeed display a - value, got to -8.2 in the freezer : )
The Min/Max function is handy too. The way it works - you press the MEM function on back of unit, from this time it will start recording min and max. Then come back in 1 days time, or 1 hours time if you want and press the Min/Max button, it will display the min and max temperature during that period
one small negative about it is the cover for putting in batteries, difficult enough to take it off
the batteries are small roundy ones, like the ones you would put ina watch and you need 2 of them, but they came with the product so all good
postage was very quick on this and did not cost me
overall a good product

I had been thinking about buying one of these for a year or more before I actually did. I was put off by not knowing how big it was or how "baby looking" it was.
It turns out to be very neat. It stands about 8 cm tall and is about 6 cm wide. It has a plastic case, but feels of reasonable quality.
While there is a very faint pink tint to the case it doesn't look out of place in an office environment. (I work in an office without air-con and it gets hot and humid in the Summer).
The screen is clear and easy to read. The thermometer readout appears to be accurate to within a degree (when compared to my other digital thermometer). The Hygrometer readings appear plausible/right (I have nothing else to check them against).
It fits neatly under my computer screen and creates a source of conversation and interest on especially hot or humid days (and on cold mornings too).

Information after 6 months
After 6 months this hygrometer no longer shows the humidity of the room. Instead it reads HH. This would appear to be high humidity but infact it is broken. Read more

Brilliant product
